I just came home from a funeral. It was for my Uncle Gary, who died Thursday at the age of 57. He was raking leaves, and collapsed. He has always been healthy. He was the GM at the Tee Jay's resturant in Newark, OH. He has managed resturants his entire life, was good at it, and enjoied it. We was a good down to earth guy, loving husband, father of 4, and a veteran.
My point: He didn't have anything arranged for his final expences. This was a burden to the family, since we are all blue collar, paycheck to paycheck folks.
I don't know what we would have done if it hadn't been for the owners of Tee Jay's coming forth with a "Christmas bonus" that paid for the funeral. Proves there are still some decent people in this world. Many thanks to them.
I have life insurance, it is modest, but will cover ALL debts x2, plus final expense, and then some. I am going to get a Will and stuff in place, haven't done that yet.
My advice, get your ducks in a row.

Re: Get your ducks in a row
Sorry to hear about your uncle.
Lynne and I got our ducks in a row after my mom died unexpectedly in 2005 at the age of 53. We had a will drawn up and I have life insurance on my self for enough to pay all debts and put the kids through college and then there is still a lot left! My hope is that with everything ready and arranged, we'll never need to go through it until a ripe old age.

Re: Get your ducks in a row
You have my sincerest condolences about the loss of your uncle.
I'm in that age group, but, in a way, I have my ducks in a row. Uncle Sam is going to bury me at sea. As I have no issue (that I'm aware of) and none of those spousal units, I can go to my reward not owing one red cent.

Re: Get your ducks in a row
Thanks to all. It was definately a wake up call. I'm glad to hear that some of us have things figured out.
I didn't know about the "Burial at Sea". I do feel that all veterans should be honored and deserve for the country they served to take care of them in the end. I guess my Aunt and other family didn't think to ask about that for my uncle. They did receive a flag, though. Maybe he wasn't in long enough or something. Doesn't matter now, it's all taken care of. We are at peace.

Re: Get your ducks in a row
Sorry for your loss, Roy. And a piece of advise for everyone reading this. GET A LIVING WILL AND AN END TIME WILL. If you don't the gov"t can take everything you own. End time stuff is something that we don't like to talk about but it is very important to take care of those we love. Don't leave them with a bunch of legal mumbo-jumbo to deal with.

Hi Roy,
Sorry for the lost. Will keep the family in my prayers.
Thanks for the reminder about taking care of things for the unwanted to happen.
