It's Not A New Project... But It Is A Distraction...

Post by mdmead »

I bought this last week...

It's been sitting under a couple of trees for several years so it needs a bath.

And here is the part I bought it for.

The story is this 84 Wagoneer was the hunting rig of the guy I bought it from. It suffered a carb fire so the owner decided to convert it to EFI. Most of the install was completed, except for the wiring harness. The guy lost interest and the Jeep sat. I met this guy while on Jury Duty and we got to talking about our 4x4s. I told him I was wanting an EFI for my Bronco and he told me I could buy his for $500 but I had to take the Wagoneer too. The deal sounded good then, but after talking to him some more he said that rig should run and drive with the addition of a carb as it was a driver when he took it off the road. He also mentioned it had a nice roof rack and nearly new tires on nearly new wheels.

My plans for it? Well, if I can get it running for the cost of a carb, I'll probably fix it and sell it. Any money I make on the deal will buy parts for the Bronco. It's possible I can do a swap... my Bronco carb to the Jeep and the EFI to the Bronco. If it turns out it has other issues, major issues, I'll part it out and junk it.

Yes, I'm sorry to say I will be working on this before I go back to work on my van. But given all the other projects that are ahead of the van at this point, this one is pretty minor... (Of course I probably thought that about the other projects that are backlogged too...)

not a jeep fan, never have been, apparently you arent much of one either if the plan is to sell it. but i gotta admit those old wagoneers and comanches are pretty cool looking. considering its only as old as i am its still amazing how much has changed. much better looking than any current jeeps and clean also. gotta love the west coast, i was raised in wisconsin but live in oregon (mt. hood area) and i see vehicles out here all the time i never even knew existed.

It's all because of the EFI unit. I wanted a simple throttle body type to replace the carb but none of the aftermarket units are cheap. I was hoping maybe there was a cheap conversion using the GM TBI but I never found one.

I know a guy who did want the axles from this Jeep. He offered me $500 for the whole vehicle after I yanked the EFI. (He has since bought a pair of axles, so I don't think he is interested anymore.) Another guy wants the roof rack. But if I can get it running, it will be worth more.

And GnarliSafari, I'm not Jeep fan either. But mainly I'm against the CJ/YJ/TJ as everyone has one. If this deal had come along before I bought my Bronco, I may have been interested in keeping it. I'd also be interested in a Commando, or even a Scrambler. Of course I'm really a classic Bronco guy, and my second choice would be a Scout II.

My wife wasn't happy about me buying this. She basically read me the riot act, complaining about the non-working master bathroom and the main bath that needs a remodel. So, as of today, the master bath now has functioning fixtures and tomorrow I'll start on the main bath where I need to do flooring, replace the toilet/tub/sink/sink counter and then paint. But it doesn't have to be done until the 11th..... ](*,)

Good deal! Sounds like a plan Mr Mead! Good luck with selling it.

Oh ya........keepin Mom happy is a good move. Cherie doesn't quite understand my passion for doing stuff to the Safari. Or any other vehicle I have. So, she's getting a new kitchen. It's scary how much that is costing. :yikes: It's worth it because she really can't say much about my collecting everything necessary to put a V8 in the Safari. Plus I always tell her it's to keep it reliable. We travel in the van and she's scared that somewhere in the wilderness we'll break down and the indians will capture us. :muhaha:
