Blower motor
Hi guys. My front blower motor was chirping and squeeling, so I took it out, sprayed WD40 on the bearings and put it back in. When I turned it on, it didn't work, and blew a fuse. Now it just doesn't work at all. Did I short it out with the WD40????

Re: Blower motor
I didn't think WD40 was conductive but may be wrong - you can buy new fan motor from Parts houses or RockAuto for $22 or less. hardly worth messing with. Gotta replace mine too - totally dead.

Re: Blower motor
The Oilite (that's the name of them) are bearings without balls or rollers. The lubrication is in them for THEIR life and you cannot relubricate them. What you did with the WD-40 was to dry them out even more.
I've posted the procedure here in the forums. Make sure you do this in a garage during frigid weather. Follow the procedure closely. Do not miss any steps, including the very last one.

I assume you mean this ... viewtopic.php?p=51216#p51216
Those are pretty much the same steps I took, except I'm not sure what the ground lug that you're referring to is. And why frigid weather?

Re: Blower motor
"Bearing" is a wrong description. The so called bearing is actually a bushing. It can be cleaned and relubed but is hardly worth the effort as new blower motors are so cheap. As a hobby I restore old Datsun Z cars. There are so many parts that are no longer available that it is prudent to repair blower motors and wiper motors and so on. What happens is the lube hardens with age and locks up the armature in the bushing. Then the bushing rotates in its holder. I disassemble them, clean everything and relube them with 30wt motor oil. What you will find right behind the bushing is an absorbent material that I soak real good with 30wt. It works good and saves the part.

I phoned around here ( ) and it goes for as much as $97. The cheapest I found was $42 with a dealer discount. Or I could try to ship it from the US...

Re: Blower motor
buy it from rockauto timelessbeing
I had no idea but, apparently they build in the broker fees to the shipping amount. a friend of mine up here buys from them regularly. last time he got a pair of front struts for his gf's car for around 1/2 the price he could find up here. that included exchange and shipping.
go through the checkout process to near the end to see the shipping amount and calculate the exchange to see if worth it

Re: Blower motor
Drooler, that one won't work on my year, because it only has a single terminal.
Mine would be this one: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp ... _613258951___
$29.99 US which is pretty cheap, but they don't ship to Canada at all.
I already picked one up today for $47 CAD incl tax. Installed it in 15 mins. She's blowing again like a .... well you get the idea.
Now my feet are warm again.

Re: Blower motor
There's something wrong with the heat again. The amount of air varies with engine load, so that's probably a vacuum line right? The main vacuum line and blower motor were replaced recently.

Is the air going to your feet when you press the gas?

Re: Blower motor
mine did that.I put a check valve for an aquarium bubbler in the vacuum line taped it up.They same size as the vacuum line.Cost me $1.75 now I can floor it indefinately and air stays where you put it.Check valve keeps water from going to air pump on aquarium.Cheap easy fix. did mine three years ago.Whats sweet is summer air always in your face on long freeway hills. The valve alows air travel one direction only so just make sure direction right when you install it.should draw air toward engine.

Re: Blower motor
My vents are still acting up. The air strength/distribution(?) is different at idle than when climbing a steep hill.
- The engine vacuum source line was recently replaced and looks good.
- I recently replaced the blower motor.
- I tested the check-valve and it works fine.
- Vacuum tank is good too
- The source line (black) is good all the way to the the dash controls. (getting suction there)
- Selector looks OK.
That's all I had time for, and the rest (actuators etc.) looks difficult to access.
