non tradtional student?

I am going back to college after all these years ( I am 46 years young) anyone here done this? any advice?

If you can swing it, record your classes. That or take VERY good notes. Your memory isn't as good as when you were younger. You can learn, it's just a little harder to make it "stick".
Other than that, it's all positive, since the lifestyle of the average adult is far more conducive to learning than that of most "college age" folks.

don't we learn new things everyday why wouldn't going back to school be a good idea. It's always good to improve oneself (if only i would take that advice....)

What are you going back for?

I was a non-traditional student at the age of 21. I had been married for 2 years and Jessie was already walking around. You will be there for a purpose so your priority is already correct. Just make sure you study and when it gets tough, just keep your head up and know the end will be worth it. I went from being a farmhand working for my dad making $250 a week while working over 100 hours each week to making $9.something an hour with a dollar an hour raise after 30 days and only working a 40 hour a week job. That was the most money I had ever made...back in 1995.

I've been back to school a few times since I left college at 20 years old.
You never stop learning.
If it's something that you really enjoy doing then learning more about is all that more interesting and easier to do.
I am 50 years old in a few days and have been doing the same thing for over 31 years and I still enjoy going to work every day.
If you enjoy what your doing then it's not "learning" at all. It's expanding your knowledge in a field of work you already have a passion for.
Go for it, good luck and enjoy yourself. Few people have the opportunity to return to school, although many wish they could.

I am a disabled veteran I was wounded in an explosion in desert storm, I stayed in the Army for a couple years after and have severe headaches (migraines and cluster) I have been on disability since 1996 and other then DJing I have done stuff under the table simply because doing nothing is not an option for me. I worked as a bouncer, a janitor and a short time as assistant manager of a bar. I am now accepted into a program called vocational rehabilitation from the VA and I have wanted to own my own pub with food and booze and some light entertainment for years so now I am going to college for a BA in Business specializing in restaurant & bar management. My goal is to open a place where everything food is 6 bucks a meal (to include a protein and a starch basically) stuff like a steak and a baked potato. I have a business plan and even a name for my future pub. It shall be called Travelers Pub & family restaurant! I will be 50 in 4 years so thats when it will open lol. Mark

=D> kudos sir. going back to school is a tough road but worth it. i'm 32 currently and went back for the fall and winter semester of 08/09. i have to say it's probably the hardest thing i've done. not because i couldn't do it. it's mostly been life around me. having a new born son along with dad having surgery and list of other things...studies got put on the back burner. i'd like to go back...just waiting for life to slow down so i can. going back to school has been a very rewarding experience for me so far.

keep us updated on the progress, i know i'd love to how it turns out for you...especially the pub!

As you can imagine, working on the computer/control systems on the latest automotive offerings from GM requires constant upgrading of skills. So going to 'school' is a normal thing for me. But that is just skill upgrading....you are learning a new 'trade' as it were.

I am also a fellow student currently enrolled in the Instructors Diploma Program. The 1st class I went to I came away thinking "What have I got myself into?" However, as time has progressed I have settled into the routine & am coasting along nicely. So far my marks have been encouraging, 98%, 97% & 97%.....Who knew?

My advice, relax - settle in & you will do fine. Best of luck!
