got a new truck

Post by GnarliSafari »

I just traded in my '02 6.0l 2500hd, short bed, extended cab for and '03 6.6l duramax 2500hd, long bed, crew cab. I was looking for more space inside and in the bed and kinda wanted the extra torque the diesel produces for towing. I looked around for a couple weeks and stumbled across this one. I only paid $2000 on top of the trade and ended up not only with the pre-mentioned upgrades but a bunch of other goodies also. This thing has the Allison 5spd, its set up for trailer brakes, has an auxiliary tank/tool box combo in the bed, has the bose stereo system, dual climate control and a couple other things my old one didnt. The only thing I am losing is my ladder/lumber rack, I thought about keeping it but its for a short bed so I am gonna see if I find a used one on cl. dont expect photos as I dont have a camera or know how to post them anyway, its white and looks like any other crew cab long bed, basic but has the alloys and the paint matched fender flares and has been more babied than my old one.

Nice. The Duramax/Allison combo is one heck of an upgrade from the 6.0L/4L80E. I would like to upgrade to a diesel just for towing.

yeah I have a 16ft double axle flatbed on at all times. I dont normally haul too much weight around on it and have not put this thing up to the "test" yet but even my old truck pulled heavy loads around on that thing virtually effortlessly so I think i should be happy when the time comes. I edited my post to make it a little easier to read sorry about the original ramble.

Sounds like a nice truck! While I like my F-250 and the gas V-10, if money was no object, I'd be picking up a new GMC crew cab diesel. (You can't beat a diesel for towing heavy loads!)

yeah I was set on a diesel. I have to admit i really like the cummins over anything else, its the only TRUE diesel out there, but I just couldnt buy a dodge! I really do kinda like the fords overall appearance also and looked at a couple 7.3s, but i just wouldnt feel right buying outside the GM family. I am only 25 (almost 26) and I have owned an 86 S-10, a 92 G-30, a 95 saturn wagon(trying the gas mileage thing pfff!) my 99 Safari(which i still own and will never get rid of) my 02 Silvy and now my 03 silvy, notice a trend? if I couldnt bring myself to buying a dodge/cummins why buy a ford either? at least i know the Allison is supposed to be reliable and I havent heard much bad about the duramax's either and hey its a GM which is what I wanted anyways. I know the 03s had recalled fuel injectors, I made sure they were replaced on this one before buying it.
