So I got my motorbike on the road this week. Decided it needed a oil change to start the season so when I got home from work while the engine was nice and hot I started the oil change.
First thing that went sideways was the oil was so hot that it drained in about 2 seconds flat which is unfortunatly was faster than the catch pan could take. So the oil splashed all over the shop floor just missing me as I was lying on the floor beside the bike.
Then I had to remove the cover in the bottom of the oil pan to change the filter which is inside the oil pan. This was fine but when putting the cover back on I snapped one of the bolts in the bottom of the pan. Nice and flush so you could not grab anything to unscrew it.
So after a quick trip to the local NAPA to get a set of easyouts and stealing a right angle drill from my brothers house while he is away. I managed to drill a hole into the bolt and the easy out actually worked to get the broken bolt out. I was so happy that it worked on the first shot. Normally when these things happen I some how end up wrecking the threads or something else goes wrong or the whole thing ends up in the shop or getting drilled and tapped out to a bigger size.
You know your having a bad day when it takes 2 days and a handfull or stolen tools to do a oil change.

'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

Looks like us Canadians are all due for an oil change. Checking the motor oil yesterday after running hot ... the level was middle way on the "ADD" line .... YIKES!

i'll be doing mine this week too sat for 3 weeks while i was gone noticed a small leak around drain plug hope mine goes smoother..... (but it does sound like something that would happen to me)

Oil change oil change instructions for women:
1) Pull up to Jiffy Lube when the mileage reaches 3000 miles since the last oil change.
2) Drink a cup of coffee.
3) 15 minutes later, write a check and leave with a properly maintained vehicle.
Money spent:
Oil Change $20.00
Coffee $1.00
Total $21.00
Oil change instructions for men:
1) Wait until Saturday, drive to auto parts store and buy a case of oil, filter, kitty litter, and cleaner and a scented tree, write A check for $50.00.
2) Stop by 7-11 and buy a case of beer, write a check for $20, Drive home.
3) Open a beer and drink it.
4) Jack car up. Spend 30 minutes looking for jack stands.
5) Find jack stands under kid's pedal car.
6) In frustration, open another beer and drink it.
7) Place drain pan under engine.
8) Look for 9/16-box end wrench
9) Give up and use crescent wrench.
10) Unscrew drain plug.
11) Drop drain plug in pan of hot oil: splash hot oil on you.
12) Crawl out from under car to wipe hot oil off of face and arms. Throw kitty litter on spilled oil.

LOL ... I am due to change mine soon as well. Been running Royal Purple but recently at Canadian Tire I noted a 4quart +1quart bonus Mobil 5w30 Synthetic oil for $34.99. That is actually kind of cheap, isnt it?

Thats very cheap. I run Royal Purple in the bike and it was nearly $50 for 4 litres. The synthetic I run in the dirtbikes is $50 a gallon as well.

Yups. Well my transfer case needs 1.3L = 2 bottles at $30 per bottle.
The motor oil (RP) is anywhere from $7-12 per quart.
