Well sadly I just found out since early June my mother in Florida is in a nursing home and from the sound of it will never leave. She is in her mid eights and I guess it has been a good life.My estranged sister seems has taken control to the extent where the nursing wouldn't tell me much.Damm I hate her money grabbing life style.
What I had wished for my mom was a peaceful end for her at home. Now it seems that isn't going to be.

Gary, it would seem that every family has someone like that. While I don't approve of warehousing the elderly, sometimes it is for the better, as they will be better cared for (in a reputable facility). I hope your sister will, someday, come to her senses.

that's sad man, but it may just work out ok. think positive thoughts. If it's not something you have control over, doing otherwise will just make you feel sick.

Re: News from home
my grandmother had to go to a home when she hit about 86 she didn't want to go at first but once she was there she loved it. She made a bunch of new friends and found it was like being on a cruise ship all the time. No cooking no cleaning and always activities to do.
Now my wifes grandparents are in a home as well. They made the decision to move when granddad got kind of wobbly and fell a couple of times. So far they have enjoyed it and have been there a little over a year. So from that aspect it might not be all bad for your mom. If you can swing it and get a week off work it might be a good idea to head down there and take a look around and introduce yourself to the staff and managment team so then maybe you will not get the run around next time if they have a face to the name.

Re: News from home
Sorry to hear it Gary. But as others have said, it may not be the worst thing. My grandmother was put in a care facility due to Alzheimers. It was a tough decision for my mom to make, but it was the only one that made sense. She was taken good care of there right up to the end. (She died of pneumonia after falling and breaking her hip. Classic....)

As the folks above have indicated it may be a good thing. I often take the children I volunteer to care for in the community or church to senior homes to teach them respect the elderly and to be in habit to visit. Even though if the seniors have it good like a cruise, visit from little children spark them up with a HUGE smile. I hope for the best for your mom Gary.Kidhauler wrote: it was like being on a cruise ship all the time. No cooking no cleaning and always activities to do.

Re: News from home
Just found this post Gary and wanted to say how sorry I am. Susan and I are going through the same. My Mom is in a nursing home and Susan's Dad. Her Mom was there but died in her sleep a few months ago. They were both 95 and had been married 70 years. A good life and have seen their family grow up, the Grand-Children and Great Grand-Children. You can't ask for more than that in ones life.
