Yakima Vintiques Car Show 2010 - No Dial-Up Allowed! :)

Post by mdmead »

I dragged my wife and daughter to the Vintiques show yesterday. I was wrapping up my picture taking just as the rain started.... Felt bad for all the guys rushing to cover up their prized toys. Some really nice cars and trucks there.

I have a soft spot for the '57 Ford.
Image

I prefer mine of the 4x4 persuasion, but it's still so sweet.
Image

Image

Doesn't have to be a Nomad to be cool!
Image

This is the best adaption of a late-model bed I've ever seen. I actually had to look twice to figure it out. (Not to shabby under the hood either. Peter would be proud!)
Image
Image
Image

Image

Powered by a GM Quad-4. Nice!
Image
Image

I didn't recognize this little pint-sized vehicle. Looked like it may have been a kit or something. There was a picturebook with this and it had been restored from a rusted out hulk.
Image

A couple of really 'dignified' hot rods.
Image
Image
Image
Image

Dump trucks can be cool! A polished stainless steel bed? Wow!
Image
Image

Yeah baby, a wagon!
Image

Elky! How low can you go?...
Image

I'd have snapped it because it is a Nomad. But a straight 6 is bitchin'!
Image
Image

Pinto powered!
Image
Image

A row of Rats! (First one is hemi-powered!)
Image

Image

Ryan likes the short ones!
Image
Image

YEAH BABY! This one is SO MUCH nicer than mine. Has custom A/C too... something mine will get in time.
Image

This one seemed to have all the right off-road parts, but is too clean to take into the dirt. I don't dig the black wheels either.
Image

It's a wagon, of course I snapped a picture of it!
Image

Doesn't that stuffed dog next to the kid look real?!
Image
Image

Different. Fiero drivetrain?
Image
Image

Image

Even Ramblers can be cool.
Image

After the two Broncos, if I could just take one vehicle away from this show, this is it.
Image

As I approached from the front, I was saying WTF? Turns out it is sitting on a Toyota chassis. The rear wheels need to slide back a touch, but still pretty neat.
Image
Image

My favorite wagon of the show.
Image

It was starting to rain as I snapped this pic. This guy had a pretty nice set-up!
Image

Old Skool tires!
Image
Image

Image

Some potential projects...

Needs a 4x4 conversion!
Image

This looks like it could be cool... Kind of a cross between Mad Max and a pre-runner style maybe?
Image

In the swap meet area. Old motorcycle conversion kit car. Would be a fun project too....
Image
Image

A lot of really nice models in the contest.

Thanks for the pictures Matt. I love car shows.
We have a heavy truck show today in Sidney we hope to attend. Even though it's a holiday I'm still pretty busy so I don't know if I'll make it, but I'll try. If I do I'll post some pics.

I usually use an old Sony DSC S85. It take great pics and I'm comfortable with it, but it is very slow. (I didn't bring it because I've misplaced my spare memory cards and one card only holds about 70 pics... and I knew I'd be taking about twice that.) At this show I used my wife's Panasonic DMC-TZ5. It's a nice camera as long as you don't need flash. (I've yet to figure out how to get great flash shots with it.) Of course most of my pics are also massaged with MS Picture Manager's editing tools. (I check them with 'auto correct' and if I don't like that, I usually end up bumping 'brightness and contrast' 5-10 points. Most get cropped too.) I've learned to take at least two pics of each subject as I tend to wiggle sometimes.

I think the Blue Flame Six in that '57 Nomad was fuel injected! Super Cool!

Killer rides, but I prefer older, unadulterated wheels from the 30s; you know, the ones with running boards.
