Going to the eye doctor in the morning

Post by 1Gary »

With what happened to Chops and me having type II diabetics,I an going to see a eye doctor in the morning. My vision both long distances and close up is giving me trouble and I am having a problem with my right eye that I am consistently rubbing. In the pass,I thought it was my yearly eye infection, but now it has been confirmed that I have that dreaded diabetics,I am not going to take any chances. For them to check my eyes, they have to dilate my eyes,so I will be off the forum for a day or so.

good luck my man. Hope all goes well with the check up. My Brother was in the same boat Gary and had many lasor procedures done on his eyes in later years. He had been a diabetic since he was 5 or 6 years old so you are along way from this yet. Just take care and do what you can. Ask your Dr. about taking Shark cartilage and see what he has to say.

Off line for 2 days after eye dilation???? HORSE PUCKY! The opthamologist adds drops to the eyes after he looks for diabetic retinopathy that hasten the return to normalcy for the irises. Your eyes return to normal within HOURS. I know -- I do this annually for my diabetic exams.

I hate those drops. I survived retinopathy by having thousands (yes, thousands) of lazer shots to the area around the macula, both vitreous bodies removed and direct lazer koterizing to the inside of both eyes, the only complications being two retina detachments. Both were reattached. As long as I have new glasses, I can pass the drivers licence vision test, but just barely.

One thing about the lazer treatment, you could lose all peripheral vision. I did, and its like having side shields on you glasses, inconvienant, but you don't notice after a while.

As for the reversal drops, I haven't been able to get those for years, none of my eye doctors use them anymore. Could be different where you go, hard to say. They gave me a splitting headache anyway.

It takes me about 16 hours for my vision to return to normal after dilation. Sometimes longer.

I hope you do OK Gary, from someone who's been there, listen to your doctor and get a second and third opinion if anything doesn't sit right.

PM me if you want.

Larry, I'm hanging a bit to port, but doing reasonably well. Mom passed on 21May10, quite suddenly. She had just started chemo the week before for a very treatable cancer. We all expected her to be around to dance on OUR graves. It was the first time I saw my father cry. We're all glad that she didn't linger or suffer. She didn't deserve that.

Mike-your right. The drops lasted only hrs.I thought I remembered being patched up with gauze for the day.I had them check only the right eye because I was driving and that is the only way I could get there.I am going back next wk to have the left one done.Didn't find any damage aside from a vein pressing somewhat hard on a artery. They think I have a eye infection and I have to get drops to treat that. The eyes are 20/40 in one and 20/60 in the other one. They want me to get driving glasses and new reading glasses because I don't want bio-focials (sp).Oh yeah-rained hard yesterday and with dial up it screwed up my phone. But that is a whole another thread for a different day.I couldn't get back on until this morning.

Just feel given my position I can't be too cautious.
