Don't got to Seattle for ThanksGiving with your good car
I think I'm going to take my new old truck to Seattle for ThanksGiving this year. It's 4wd, but I hesitate because it has all good sheet metal.
I'm definitely not taking my van. Not with the yahoos down there and the lack of snow & ice removal equipment and all those hills.
Rated C- for a little bit of "Carnage"

Re: Don't got to Seattle for ThanksGiving with your good car
every time i see one of these clips i can't not watch all the way through to see the moronic moves the drivers make. really, what were you thinking? why were you going so fast? why did you lock up the brakes? etc etc etc
IMO.. as part of a graduated licensing program anywhere in NA that gets snow/ice (temps around freezing) should be MANDATORY skid control classes.
they do in the UK, Germany and all those countries overseas

Re: Don't got to Seattle for ThanksGiving with your good car
none of those vehicles ABS seemed to be working.... i live on Hwy 26 heading up to Mt. Hood the entire Hwy is ice so its been pretty fun watching cars near me the last couple days. i started to fix some neglected things on my van when we still had nice weather and then the weather changed over night, now i have a half torn apart van with a foot of snow on it. boy do i wish i had finished it up before this crap as my truck isnt the most fun in ice, nothing beats AWD!

Good idea, Tom. I think I'd forgo the Seattle trip altogether. Happy Thanksgiving.

Ain't that the truth!GnarliSafari wrote: boy do i wish i had finished it up before this crap as my truck isnt the most fun in ice, nothing beats AWD!
For snowy roads, I'll take my AWD Safari over any 4x4 truck or SUV I have ever owned!

There's a point when ABS will do nothing for you, and then beyond that point, it actually makes things worse!GnarliSafari wrote:none of those vehicles ABS seemed to be working

i guess what i meant is the wheels seemed to locked up completely, not pulsating like they should with the ABS. i personally dont like ABS anyways..

No, I just REMEMBER how much better the van is compared to my truck!

Re: Don't got to Seattle for ThanksGiving with your good car
If all 4 tires are stopped then the abs thinks you are stopped. You need 1 tire turning for abs to work. For example if your sliding down the hill and the abs is working but you still slide sideways and the tires all lock then it thinks you have stopped and you will lock up and slide till something stopps you.

Re: Don't got to Seattle for ThanksGiving with your good car
These videos always crack me up!
Todays cars have so many systems designed to keep us safe ie active seat belts, front and side air bags, crumple zones, etc. NONE of these things help on ice. Ok I take that back, the seat belts help but the impacts are at too slow a speed to deploy the air bags or activate the pretensioners on the seat belts.
I love the AWD SUV in the video. All wheels spinning like mad but he's going nowhere. If he had chains on he'd have something to cut through the ice.
I don't care if you have snow tires, AWD, 4WD, FWD and SUV or a Unimog. If you are on ice you're gonna slide! The only exception is a vehicle with tire chains or at the very least studded snow tires. For ABS to work, at least ONE wheel has to be able to grip the road!
