It's the people that make the difference, after all, it's our content.

Re: So, how did this site come about and how is it different
I was also on the old AS.com forums as 99Super (my SAAB 99 racer) but I found as often as not that I'd get some snarky comment to my question rather than any help. I tried to be on that site after Austin took over but I didn't find any better results.
I'm still learning a lot about these vans so I'll keep asking questions (Yes, I search the forums first!).

At times, I found that some moderators were likely to be behind the snarky comments.
I still read there, and here. But I tire of a lot of the BS there.

Re: So, how did this site come about and how is it different
Not being a part of or even aware of the "drama"...that was about where I got a little lost in the mix. I wasn't very active, I just knew the site was going down and back up and this site came up...then I was away for a while and when I checked back to AS. one day, it was up, so I just thought everyone was back there and forgot to check back here until quite recently.Kidhauler wrote: So this board was made as a back up with the thought we would go back when things got fixed.
Now I see of course that ASV did indeed keep going on it's own:)

Re: So, how did this site come about and how is it different
I was a member there too. I didn't get involved with the politics of it all, the crashing and loosing posts was an annoyance for sure. not accepting help just made it worse.
when the new site came back up I'd already got to know the members better on here in a shorter time than I did over there in a long time. maybe that was just me? or, the core group of members?
as stated, I found there to be better info, more of it and more input / knowledge that found it's way here to asv and like you said.. more consistently. possibly more mature owners? not sure.
every site can take it's own personality. here's an example: I'm on a cavalier/sunfire site for my son's 00 cavalier, I'm also on a site called neoncanada for my wife's 00 neon. for whatever reason, the members of the cav site are more helpful, mechanically knowledgeable and easy going than on the neon site. the neon site almost seems like the majority is angry about something, smart comments, inside jokes, name calling and it if isn't something about ricing your car there's little info or help ... to each their own I suppose.

Re: So, how did this site come about and how is it different
I go to both sites. Honestly schism or not there are barely enough people for one message board much less two. Both are neither good nor bad in my opinion just different. Then again I go to a lot of boards as well.

I'm a member on both, this site seems to have alot more traffic than AS. I always stay out of the drama over there and pretty much everywhere. The only problem ive ever had with that site was a mod who was alot of help to the forum just up and leave, with no reason or warning. :-k Hopefully being a member on both forums is no biggie.

Nobody here cares if you visit both sites. The key is to get the best info... wherever you can find it on the web!alexalexanders wrote: Hopefully being a member on both forums is no biggie.

Re: So, how did this site come about and how is it different
I like that everyone is pretty chill on this site. In case you haven't noticed, I mod the Politico section here on ASV. Then again, why would anyone notice? I have not had to do one thing in there the whole time I've been modding it. Nothing, not a dang thing. My wife mods on three Jeep Liberty sites and I hear her complain about people being idiots, warning and banning people, but over here nothing. =D>
As far as other sites, I'm on a total of five sites preaching the gospel of the Astro, okay six if you count the Liberty site that Grumpy gets a lot of mention on.

Re: So, how did this site come about and how is it different
I surfed both sites without signing up for a while, back before Ihad a van, to see if I even wanted one. I quickly realized the only draw the other site had was a gallery with thumbnails of all the different Astros.
I finally signed up on ASV and have been able to get all my questions answerred, and have met some great people along the way, many of them in person.
One thing I really like about the site itself, is how quickly I check it: I've bookmarked the "active topics" page so all I have to do if click on it and scroll down to see whats up if I am not looking for anything in particular.
I am on one Astro forum, 3 overlanding forums, 1 Nissan Murano forum, 3 enduro forums, 1 hockey forum, 3 paddling forums, 1 fitness forum, and one Dad forum (yes, a Dad forum!) and I wish they were all as easy and quick to access as ASV is. Some are, most are not.
Skip is right, there is a lot of respect shown on this forum between everyone. The jokesters are good at it, and never seem to cross the line...and I'm going to let that one dangle there because I'm not smart enough to come up with a funny smartass ending... :-k

Munken the triple agent hehe.
ihatemybike, I'm sorry I've been slacking off in Politico. I had some good arguments going on there in 2010. Don't worry, I'll try to heat it back up for ya. Too bad I don't have my sidekick 'Turf with me.
Clearly, I'm not a forum "playa"
I lurk in dozens of forums on various themes on the occasion when I need something, but this is the only one I visit regularly. You guys are my little internet forum family. :-({|=
