Salamander wire diagram

Post by 1Gary »

My landlord for the shop offered to let me use his Sears model 583356042 165,000 btu salamander heater if I could fix it.He was kind of vague what was wrong with it "saying he thought it needed a switch".It was built by Remington/Desa originally.10 yrs ago I worked on these style of heaters in a lawnmore shop. There is a test sequence if it does something it is that component that is bad.Of course I don't remember that anymore.

So I got it in the shop and someone torn the heck out of it.Cut all the wires, but I do think all the parts are there floating around inside of it.It is the older style spark plug kind which I like over the electronic ones which have had problems.

I did a search on Sears site and couldn't come up with a wire diagram.Anything I found on the net was for the wrong heater and a PDF file which isn't very friendly to this old computer.I called the old shop I worked at,but I do want to try to get it wired back to normal and save that costs.

If anyone could help find that wire diagram-it sure would help.

I tested the motor and it's bad. That could be the final nail in the coffin.I would expect that cost to be pretty high.I'll know more tomorrow after I call for the costs of it. ](*,)

Well to wrap this thread up.I took the Sears to a shop I once worked at that repairs these heaters. That shop isn't the fastest to turn out work and is a flat rate shop, one of the reasons I left there. It took two very cold weeks for them to look at it and mount a new motor in it.Then to find all of the rest of the components needed to be replaced going well beyond the value of the heater.Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Today I bought a used All-Pro 200,000 btu heater.I know I am very near the end of the season where i would need it,but it is a great deal and a heater that will travel with me in the larger trailer/RV for those very early cool summer mornings set up's at the markets I vend at.

So this should wrap up one more pc of the puzzle making the shop a viable work place.
