HELP!!! mildew and mold on my seats.

Post by safari kev »

I have 2 sets of seats in my basement that have grown mildew on them in the last month. one set are red cloth silverado buckets from my last safari, which are covered in green and grey fuzzy stuff that appears to be sitting on top of the fabric as well as green round dots (mold?) on the back and armrest of one of the seats. the other set is the leather split bench from my cadillac that has grey spots on the leather.
obviously, after this they wont be sitting in my basement anymore, but I need to clean them before I put them into a drier place. the seats have never gotten wet but my basement is cold (its limestone) and clammy.
does anyone know any ways to clean these? obviously I really don't want to have to pitch my seats.

if you aren't particular about color....you could wash them with a water/bleach solution. the bleach should kill the mold, but may it may also discolor the seats.

before you put them back in the van, stick one of those dry z air things http://www.drizair.com/ and it should slowly help to take the moisture out of the seats....or leave them in the warm house for a while to help dry them out.

I may be wrong, but maybe somebody else has a better solution.

Vacum, clorox fabric safe bleach, and sunlight.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2). It will kill the mold and not damage the fabric.

Actually bleach is the wrong thing to use on mold, you need a mildacide. Check with a carpet cleaning company like Coit, Stanley steamer, they may sell you what you need, or find a carpet cleaning product supplier, the place where the carpet cleaners buy their cleaning supplies.
