Winter Gear

Post by 1Gary »

I decided I was going to get a new pair of winter Mickey Mouse boots.I had a pair working construction outdoors in the winter and they are by far the warmest boots you can buy anywhere. One branch of the military that I know is the Airborne that use them. The white ones are good for -65 below.

Working out of town digging ditches for underground utilities I fell threw some ice that had formed overnight in a ditch we dug the day before. It somewhat filled one boot.Thought I was going to lose alot of that day's pay going back to the motel.Real cold winter day and I kept working sloshing water in the boot.Finished work, got back to the motel, emptied the boot at the rooms door never getting cold. The water when emptied was steaming. No b.s. True story.

I was issued bunny boots while stationed at Loring AFB in Maine, but I never liked them, nor did I wear them. I also had a pair of Sorels they issued that I wore until about two years ago. They worked well for many years, but hadn't the last few. I received a new pair of Sorels, either Glaciers or Bears, not sure at the moment, and they are TOASTY. A little clunky, but I'll take a bit of size for the comfort and warmth. When I snowmobile, it has always been my feet that get cold. No more!

If your feet, hands,or head get cold, your pretty much done.I had a glove that was issued to RG&E that was a rubber glove.I don't know how it worked, but it was the warmest glove I have ever had.Yeah,it is the glove part of it that I have trouble with.I know I have been told a mitt is the way to go,but you can't really work with a mitt.
