99 safari won't start
99 safari won't start
hello there,
I have a 99 Safari that will not start on it's own. It will start with starter fluid but the dies. I have checked the injectors and they are all good, but there doesn't seem to be a pulse going to fire them. What is needed for the pulse to get to the injectors ?
Thank you,
JLuke

Welcome to the site, Luke. Have you done a fuel pressure check? Checked fuses?

Definitely check fuel pressure. You should hear the fuel pump run when you first cycle the key to on.

Re: 99 safari won't start
There are ECM fuses. Check them. They fire the injectors through the ECM.

have checked all fuses, going to have the computer checked out today . If it is bad can you replace it with one from a junkyard ?
Re: 99 safari won't start

Re: 99 safari won't start
Put in new pcm, still no start am going to go back and recheck everything. Still don't know what all is needed for injectors to fire . I know it has something to do with fuel delivery because it will fire on starter fluid !

Re: 99 safari won't start
bad wiring?
Do you have the injectors or poppet valves? How did you test them?

Re: 99 safari won't start
was finely able to test the actual fuel pressure with a brand new tester. ( had used a borrowed one before ) . shows about 38 lbs. key on, ( of coarse engine off ). will be ordering an new fuel pump today !
Re: 99 safari won't start
put in new fuel pump, now it sounds like it wants to try to start but won't, bad fuel ? ( had about 3 gal left, in tank, only had enough cans for 15 gal. was full didn't want to pour onto ground )

Re: 99 safari won't start
If the VCM is replaced and the signal isn't getting to the injectors, then use your volt meter and trace the wires all the way back and see where it's disappearing. The injectors connect directly to C2 on the VCM.
