Just bought another Astro

Post by HPbyStan »

Neighbor wadded up his 2000 Astro LT with no collision insurance. Slide sideways into a pole right at the sliding door and kinked the roof. Thing WAS in really nice shape, a fully loaded LT with new tires and battery and rebuilt transmission. Runs like a watch and still drives really well. Got it for $550.

OK stop with the collision pix unless you're gonna come over here and help bend the chromoly tubing.

Congrats on the new van. I say chop it off behind the rear doors and weld in a full roll cage. Loose the front doors too and make tube doors.

Don't have the silliest idea Gary. Kinda an impulse buy, thought I needed it. Got a clear title with it as it was from a privite owner, not an ins co. I could patch this mess up and Car Fax would never know. You just can't be sure if Car Fax says it never had crash damage that is really the deal. I have no intention of doing that but could......

Maybe a cool custom build similar to the Reynolds Boughton RB 44?

Post by HPbyStan »

I unbolted all the seats in the wreaked 2000 LT Astro I bought and vacuumed up all the glass. Damn, that whole interier looks like new. Gonna put the 4 buckets (2 power front buckets and 2 second row manual buckets )and 1 bench on Craigs List.

Stan,

I am just thinking out loud here...

Without having seen it, could it be chopped into a pick up?

Thanks, Jim

I was kicking that idea around at 1st as well.It took the hit in the right side about a foot too far forward imo. The rt ft door post took a hit and the roof buckle starts there.

Ah Well,

Good Luck with the parting it out.

I want first dibs on the leather wrapped steering wheel though, OK?

I forgot to even look at the steering wheel. Neither air bag went off tho as it was a side hit. I was hoping it had an OEM CD player but it is a cassette with the CD add on in what is a pocket on most vans. Geez, even the carpet looks new in this thing. Always seems a bigger deal when a nice one gets wiped out.
