With the Astro's roofs being ribbed,it has been kind of problematic to seal a roof vent.

There is some truth to that for sure. But having installed sunroofs before,it can be done granted a PITA!
Alot of years on our vans (least all my '90's Astros )have a square near the rear roof without ribs that could bu used for a roof vent. Never actually measured the area ,but its definitely doable. Worst than ribs are double skinned roofs, because the spacers need to be between the 2 skins and is razor sharp!

If you do / can install a roof vent, I would take advantage of finding one that runs on both a 12v DC and a solar power source if available. So few attainable shade spots to park in Florida that at least you won't roast as much getting in your vehicle should the fan run without draining your battery until your return.

It's been done several times. Here's a thread, but the pics seem to be missing.

FanTastic Vent is popular with the RV crowd, I have one waiting to go in Grumpy.

Looks like a Flettner... But isn't.

I would only buy the real deal, a Flettner.

I found a couple on eBay, and a couple knock-offs as well.

Thanks for posting this. A Great Alternative to the "square box" that doesn't work.

Jim

PS The hole cut in the roof is much smaller that any other ventilators also.

thanks guys....i too have come to the conclusion that I would look for someone in UK willing to ship me a Flettner.

You see these things everywhere in England....they are so common on van roofs!

I think i gotta have me one! :)
