My '95 AWD has a cracked block and I need to replace it .... my question is this :-k .... I have an 89 that the body has seen better days ie ... rust ! ](*,) Is it possible to swap in the '89 4.3 into the '95 .. [-o< .. the '89 motor is solid and would be great if this would be possible . Thanks for your input !

the computers, fuel injection and emmisions systems are totally different. If the heads and intake are good on the 95 you could swap the blocks crank and pistons out of the 89 and put the 95 heads and intake on. If you have emmisions testing in your area a 89 will probably never pass the 95 standards as they are usually two different tests. Plus to make the 89 run you would have to swap the whole wiring harness and computer.

I was hoping that the intakes would swap , as the '95 has the bolts in the same angle as the earlier years . Basically I want to swap in the long block , but use all the electronics from the '95 . Gonna give it a go and see how it goes !

I'm thinking off hand the cam profile for the 89 would be all wrong for the injection of the 95 let alone the computer ignition timing.

You could use the 89 long block, and bolt all of the 95 fuel system onto the 89 block/heads.
I went the opposite way and put a 95 into my 87...

The 89 heads dont have as many holes to attach sensors.
My 95 heads used 2 sensors in holes on the drivers side head.
My 87 heads only had one hole in the same spot.

To get around that you could use the 95 heads if they are in great shape, or find a different location (like the other head perhaps) to put the second sensor using the 89 heads.

BTW, the 95 heads flow a lot better than the 89 heads
Be sure to use the correct Y pipe as the 2wd and awd manifolds (ex) are different, and so is the attaching Y-pipe.
