It's all good my friend, we all learn.doyoulikeithere wrote:Ya, 13 pounds sounds right for a Gen 1 TBI system.

So I'm gonna get that regulator this week end and have it all done. The fuel pump was the last thing in my list to replace until I spoke to my mechanic and he told me the big gap in the psi between the astro and the burban and that makes sense since the van is running rich at all time even after rebuilding my tbi.
So oil change and new oil filter and regulator this week end and I think we are good to go after that. The van should drive like a dream after all this work.
I'm already happy with the result so far, not so much on the power as we all know why now, but over all, the van is stretching it s 2nd week on the road and still drives pretty good and I am really pleased with the results

Re: Phantom Rebel V8 Swap
Ok, we are now a at a stand still here as I'll need some help.
Stopped at my local auto part store and they don't have any regulator that fits my needs
Unless you guys know of anything as I'm not the only one out there that did a conversion and bumped into this issue
But I'm looking for a regulator that can handle a 50-60 psi to 13 or lower psi on the output
If you guys now of a good brand that can do the trick, please do let me know as I want to drive the van for Father's Day and going to the show and shine with it too.
Thanks

Re: Phantom Rebel V8 Swap
i'm currently banging my head on the wall right now like this ](*,)
i have tried lordco to get a regulator for my PSI problem and lordco doesn't have any that can take that much pressure to lower it at 13 psi.
talked to a mechanic "one of my customer" about my issue and he said not to use a regulator, but instead, use a Fuel pump off a Chevy S10 93 as it puts out 13 psi.
Believe me when i say that i really don't want to drop the fuel tank. i really dont want to do it, but i will have to if that solves all my problems with the psi as not only i don't feel like screwing around with a regulator that would end up to look like crap under the hood, but i don't want to drop the gas tank, But again, if that solves the problem once and for all? So be it
unless you guys know of a good Chevy fuel pump other than an S10 that could fit in the fuel tank of the Astro?

Re: Phantom Rebel V8 Swap
S10 Pump ?!?! Why? Why not use a fuel pump for a 94 astro VIN Z..
If it was a TBI van (vin Z), it should have had a 13 psi pump.
Someone fudged the pooch if it had a 55 PSI pump in a vin Z van. !!
You could cut a hole above it in the floor and install a new fuel pump that way.
The tanks not so bad if you thouroughly soak the 2 bolts for a while with something good.
Either way its probably the best fix for that !

Re: Phantom Rebel V8 Swap
I should of known and i had a gut feeling that i should of went for it in the first place and never listened to my gut feeling. Today i did.
right after work, went to lordco and go myself a new shinny fuel pump off a 94 suburban.
I was impressed to see that they are close to identical to an Astro van, but the pressure is different from 9 to 13psi. exactly what i was looking for.
So i have my work cut out tomorrow under the van installing this new fuel pump.
will keep you guys on the loop.

Re: Phantom Rebel V8 Swap
ITS ABOUT TIME
Fuel pump has been replaced and just about ready to change the oil and filter as im just letting the motor cool down a little, But it is a success story.
I can finally stop the van at the red light and no longer stalls and no longer runs rich.
My baby is purring like a kitten.
Im very happy with the day. today was a good day.
So problem solved. the fuel pump was the problem.
Will get drunk tonight and celebrate.

Re: Phantom Rebel V8 Swap
Father's day, what a wonderful day i had with my dad.
bought him a nice breakfast and chat and we head back to my van and today was the day to push the van and get out of town and see if she would handle a long ride, flying at 120 km/h, passing some hot rods, astro vans and all waving to finally arrive at destination for the show and shine in Qualicum.
My dad kept telling me how wonderful the sound coming out of the exhaust was and kept saying "yup, sure does dad, want hear more of it?"
so 2 hours later doing the round of those wonderful cars and trucks, went back to the van and drove back home.
Van rides like a dream, no hesitation, no overheating, tranny shift perfect. past a few cars and all and pushed it to 150 km/h.
I LOVE MY VAN
Now time to do the dash "digital", Kitt "knight rider light" and camperize DA van.
here is what my new dash should look like

Re: Phantom Rebel V8 Swap
WOW, the van did amazing on the road today. Finally pushed it and did pretty good power wise and fuel wise.
the van is actually doing better on gas than my previous V6 motor.
did 220 km on a 1/4 of a tank "highway driving at 120 km an hour" and yet, the van aint tuned as i still have to fix that vacuum leak at the intake manifold.
Van flies pretty good even though it aint tuned up, so i can squeeze a little more on gas once she will be fixed.
my other intake manifold will be sand blasted as it is in way better shape than the one i currently have installed.
I love my van

Re: Phantom Rebel V8 Swap
Alright, after a few months of enjoying the ride and all, i have bumped into some issues that i can of neglected and i am facing with either a surge "no idea from where" or a bad injectors.
Here is what im dealing with.

Spray pattern
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYFsuZBw ... e=youtu.be
All sensors have been replaced as some of them were faulty, iac valve is good and so as everything else. o2 sensor was cleaned up and working and i am now leaning more on the injectors as it is still running pretty rich
