xbox wont open...

my xbox disc tray wont open, it tries too but it doesnt go.
i took the cover off... its still stuck, it used to just stick some times, but i pried on it a bit, but it didnt budge...
i have another xbox, it doesnt work, but the tray still opens when you push the button. any one know if these are these easy to swap? or any thing else i could do? i think maybe the gears are out of alignement or something. any ideas?

Locate the manual release button on your Xbox console, it should open then.

nope the manual release button doesnt work...
i just swapped them. it was super easy. 3 screws 2 connections...
sorry socalli... there wont be a thread on how to convert your xbox to a v8.... put its deff. a good idea for next time my xbox decides to quit... ;)

YC, where is this manual release button? (pics) My son's xbox was having the same problems it would only open randomly,thanks

On all cd devices there is one. you know that tiny little hole in the front of em some where. Straighten out a paper clip and stick it in there straight back and push you'll feel the lock release and the drawer pop out a bit. then just pull the drawer out. Look at the one in your computer. See the tiny hole? stick a paper clip in it and watch what happens.
I'll pop up a video of me opening one if it'll help ya.
EDIT: ok the slim line and modded ones don't.

LOL where is the mallet instead!?
AS is your xbox working now? I am a bit worried if you did open it up - hopefully no scars. Microsoft will replace those free - better yet if you got from Dell or some where else use your warranty. If you did read the manual you open that xbox bye bye warranty.
Heck of a time with my friend's Xbox - it arrived dead - tray wont open. We call Dell - nope call Microsft - call Microsoft the guy I swear was reading off a list. He was even telling us to take it apart to check it out which I promptly protested that doing that would void the warranty so hell no and that we didnt have screw drivers (lol). In short they tried everything remotely to get it to work - we got tired got the case#. Back to Dell give them the microsoft case# got a call back within the day and we got our tracking number for a new XBox
