New Additions

Post by BLAZER »

Here's a few pics of the new rabbits we've gotten. The Black and whites are for my daughter to show in 4H, they are min rexes, soft as velvet. The last two pics are of the new litter, only 12-16 hours old, they are Holland lops, smallest of the lop breeds. The mother is doing great with these, she lost all of her first little back in Jan., 4 little guys in there!!!! We are pretty excited, first successful breeding for our little rabbitry, we lost 3 litters in Jan, all new mothers and 15*f weather.
On with the show!!

Looks good. We have mini rex, Holland lops, dutch, dwarf, and some sort of black rabbits. I think we have about 3 or 4 litters at the moment, and have at least on more lop that we purchased bred, so I don't know when she will be kitting. The rabbits are mainly my wife's thing, although I enjoy them and Justin really likes them. We sold a our previous litters before Easter and got some good money for them. I can't say we really make money, but we aren't losing any money on them either.

New momma's are like that. Sometimes you get one that's good mothering right from the start, and sometimes well...it takes a bit of learning. Sometimes if you can get the babies warm (cold doesn't mean dead, just means cold and needs to be warmed up until kicking), keep them in the house at night, bring them out first thing in the morning, leave them with momma for an hour or so, and then bring them back in the house. bring them back out for an hour or so early evening and then back into the house at night. Repeat until they are fully furred then they should be just fine.

Very nice looking bunnies. You send them up my way if you ever get tired of them. :)

oh, that is so tempting, I want to thin the heard, they want more. Getting rid of the goats, maybe the horse to concentrate on the rabbits. I do have a couple I need to get rid of, but they just need busted and buried, mean old mixed rabbits we got free. Hopefully, at least 1 or 2 of these will be show quality.
I just noticed in the first pic, the left rabbit has brown all over her, when she is actually all black spots, funny how a camera will filter out things. Those two will be breed this next winter for 4H rabbits next year. You all can keep those dwarfs and dutch, too hard to get perfect rabbits for markings on the drutch.
