its still been done youtube!
and good news for V8 guys would be more like
gas is free now. now that would be some good news haha
even with a v8 in it, the aerostar sucks compared to an astro. any day.
id rather have a 4cyl astro than a v8 aerostar!

My LS1 V8 Astro does 4 mpg better than my stock V6. The six is an AWD tho. I may have killed the LS1 mileage, just switched from 3.42 to 3.73 rear gears. Haven't tested it yet with this combo... HP

To tell you the truth I have owned 3 Aerostars before I got involved with Astro's.Two of them where 5 speed sticks and one auto. The main reason for me to make the move to Astro's was they have a greater towing ablility and the Ford v6's are known for bad head gaskets or weak heads. All 2 failed with bad head gaskets or bad heads. If I remember right they too have a engine cradle and come out from the bottom.
Now I am not in anyway saying a v8 swap for one is a good choice. The Windstar being a front wheel drive,I wouldn't tow much with that and let alone tranny repairs for them are very costly.
For me,I would take a 350 sbc Astro over any 302 Aerostar anyday. The one thing a Aerostar has going for it is it is cheaper to buy than a Astro.

In '87 I went to buy a Aerostar and my buddy who was a Ford dealer wouldn't even sell me one. That should tell us something.
