trying to find a site that will tell me some more info about what this motor is but all I have is the VIN... it is a vin code "M" from a 1984 Chevrolet C30 truck. trying to find out if it is a 305 or 350 and if it is a 4bolt and what type of power it was rated for...

Someone, the engine number that's stamped above the water pump on the engine block can be deciphered by a Chevy dealer. That's how I found out the year and original vehicle that my 305 was in.

look on the driver's side of where the bellhousing meets up with the block. it appears to be a 350 by autozone's listings however. I would probably check the block casting to confirm it wasn't replaced with X random small block chevy too.

Did I understand the question or did I miss it all together ? You did need to check the code,,correct ?
