gages, speedometer, signals not working

Okay had the fuel pump replaced last week and now my gas, oil, and battery gage aren't working. Neither is my speedometer or my signals. The hazards work only when the van is turned on but not started. I also cannot read whether I am in PRND etc. The dash itself will light up. I drove it yesterday and everything started working for two seconds and then returned to the new normal. The mechanic swears it is coincidental and nothing he did? Any ideas?

Welcome, blakelyboys. Now, please throw us a bone before we attempt to diagnose your problems.

What year is your beastie? Astro? Safari? Trim package?

The first guess is a bad ECM.

My beastie is a 97 chevy astro van. It is fully loaded with 88,000 miles on it. It has definitely been babied. I use it to haul my three boys to hockey and a boat to the cottage.

I'm just guessing, but if the van runs, and I assume it is running as I don't remember you saying it wasn't, then I would guess a ground or power line is broken.

I would also guess a bad ground somewhere. Check under the van around the tank first. That is where the connection is for the fuel pump. There is a ground wire coming off some connectors there that go to the body of the van. Most of the parts not working are not controlled by the ECM so don't worry about that. Also check around the battery. It may have been disconnected (as it should have been) to change the pump.

Let's not forget about fuses as well.
