This morning at 11 am my pager with our local firehall went off, and as always everybody raced to the firehall to muster for the call.
There was an accident on the hiway into Sooke.
Being out in East Sooke we don't normaly get calls for accidents on Hiway 14 as it is out of our jurisdiction. We all new it was going to be bad.
An 18 year old girl ran her Chrysler Neon head on into a loaded tandem flatdeck and was killed on impact.
I'm still shaking. She was just a kid.
Not a nice day today

Re: Not a nice day today
Here in Central NY there was a house fire where 8 folks perished. 4 of them were children ranging in age from 4 1/2 months to 10 year. The other 4 were adults from age 44 - 19. Sure is a sad time for the community, families and schools. Nothing in life is fair anymore.
Gearing up for another great camping season Camper is re packed and ready to roll.
The 2012 camping season has begun!!!!!!!!

I too am a volunteer FF. Luckily I volunteer for my employers fire department so we rarely see deadly accidents. We do see a fair amount of minor injuries.
The only good thing (if you can call it that) is that she didn't suffer at all. Gonna suck for the truck driver though...he'll see that accident for the rest of his life. I know...I still see the afternoon of June 16, 1989 as if it was today.

What can you say that makes any sense out of things like this?.God's will?.Yes maybe.Just know that the service you provide for your community no one could ever put a price on that. Not sure if your fire company has a service that you could go and talk it out if you think you need to.But if you think the effects of this accident on you are too much, surely go.I know here there are a number of volunteer fireman.I am not one of them, but we here here for you as well.I hope you feel better soon.

I can only imagine. I drive like a Granny down my street...many small children about. The thought of hitting one of them is terrifying.LiftedAWDAstro wrote: Gonna suck for the truck driver though...he'll see that accident for the rest of his life. Stories like this make my heart ache. Two of my teenagers are driving now.
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

This is quite sad to hear, but thank you for sharing all of you. Reminds us just who precious life is and yet how suddenly it can be taking away.
I wish during this session any idiot snowboarder / skier thinking of going out-of-bound think of these type of REAL accidents that take life away.
This past month we have had 12 reported deaths of snow-out-of-bound-idiots and a few more being searched for now.
Life isnt fair ... but no one knows why. Keep your heads up and hope for the best.
