Good news for once

Normally we only here either bad news or retarded news on the tv/radio/internet... so its kinda nice to hear about this pilot who ( with the help of the crew ) landed their plane on the Hudson river and apparently ALL passengers climbed out on the wing and made it out o.k, those boys deserve a big o'le for a job well done.

The pilot gets a big "ataboy" for landing that plane in a manner that allowed everyone to get out. He knows his stuff. There is a procedure for doing water landings. Not something you get to practice. He was wide awake in class the day they studied that procedure. Good news for sure.

heard about that too today at work. That is amazing. we should all be so lucky. The pilot, copilot and everyone on board will probablly have nightmares for quite some time, but at least they can wake up...

Worked as a ramp supervisor for the ground handlers for Burlington Air Express at one time.This plane looked very much like a two engine version of a 707(I know it wasn't thro) and given that it is 300,000 lbs hitting the water.I remember seeing in TV a plane doing a water landing off a beach and the wing catching the water first which made it break up.This guy must have hit it just right with the tail in first so the engines didn't flip it over or break off the wings.300,000lbs is like a house going down.We have one of our planes hit a tree with one wing in Fort Wayne In when the runway guidance beacon was off and it just shattered into pcs.It is amazing how it floated for as long as it did.Surely was a masterful job by the crew and abit of luck too with some help from above.

You can also thank the USAF for his cockpit management skills in a high stress situation. Military (ex or active) pilots are the best to fly the friendly skies with =D>

Wanted to correct a mistake I made about max take-off wt of the plane where it is 169,000 lbs.93,500 lbs empty.My point is how incredible it is to have a tail down landing on water(which is like hitting a concrete wall) and not have the plane break up.The crew sure did do this just right.
