Tran vs. Corvette?

Post by Jinmajay »

Ok now this is just for fun. I guy at work thinks that a stock 2004, L81, 345 hp, 3275 lbs., Corvette would beat the Tran off the line hands down. I don't have all the facts on the Corvette but here are mine:

Tran
weight 4200 lbs
Estimated HP 600 HP total (450 at rear wheel) Remember the AWD will knock the total HP down
TC 2600 RPM
heads Edelbrock E-tec 200
Motor 383 stroker
Tranny 4L60E
Cam roller 220/230 114*LSA, rockers are roller
Exhaust True dual
Induction Dual TBI (edelbrock intake)
Drive AWD
CR 9.8:1
Gears 4.10
Tires 31"
Air Forced hood scoop
Computer Rob with Dynamic "Heads up display"

We all agree I will be eating vet exhaust after 5 seconds...

hmmm that would be an intresting bet..... the fact that you'd be driving an awd brick puts the odds against you. but i think you could probably win again a stocker

Vettes are notorious for not getting off the line quick. Too hard to keep the wheels planted on the pavement. I vote for the AWD hands down off the line if it is running correctly. Though your front diff may explode in the process. The 31's will also really slow things down as well.

Too many variables for me to make that call, thats for sure. But I want to see the video when it happens! Well, I'll go out on a limb and vote for the Tran.

Reminds me of one of my all time youtube favs. These goofy kids remind of me and my buddies when we were that age. Just make sure your buddies Vette is stock and not a Lingenfelter or a Rippie. :yikes:

Maybe we should put this on a Vette site to see if the opinion goes the other way?

You know Jim I put together a reply with formula's on 60' times and wt's and all the tech garcon(sp) anyone would want to read.Decided to just save it.Time for alittle old school.Enjoy your build,do whatever you think will make it into what you want.Test and tune to make it better.Stop light races can be surprising to whoever you come up against or slightly disappointing to you making you want to work harder. From what I have read so far,you have no intent to make this into a fulltime drag race van anyways.Just take your time and you getting pressed against the seat will come soon enough. =D>

Personally, I would never underestimate a Vette. I know they are affordable, domestic, and even "common", but make no mistake, these are world class cars. They kill cars that cost 5 times as much. The chassis and suspension alone makes these cars exponentially better than almost anything that can roll up next to it. The only thing that can consistantly rip-up a Vette is a sportbike as most are 0-60 in just over 2 seconds.

I figure the Vette - you'd pretty much be seeing tail lights the entire time - I agree the 4.10's and the AWD might get you moving quicker for about a second.... but a good driver in the vette would negate even that....

i am underestimating it a little bit but i've seen stock vette get killed by tuned civics and a prelude with a b18c5 engine in it, also saw video's of a twin turbo vette absolutly kill the poor little imports. one race i saw in person was a jeep grand cheerokie against a 2000 corvette jeep was tuned to hell (i didn't even know that was possible) and it held up pretty well. the dude who drove the vette was amazed (hell i was amazed and frankly i don't believe it). i like vettes hell i still would like to put an ls1/ls6 in my van a slightly tuned vette can kill those high priced cars yes but straight off the lot i'm not sure...

either way i really would like to see this completed van verse a stocker hell even if he ran alone just to get times i'd like to see it i can't help but be curious

ps. you know what i though after i wrote that "who the hell would try to turn a jeep into a race car" then i remembered what this convo is about so i guess any jeep love might try it..... since we try with our bricks on wheels...

Hrrm, if you make a legit 600hp it will be a very interesting race, especially with the AWD. If he is on stock tires, I think you'd get enough off the line he wouldn't be able to catch up. The LS6 is 360hp, and even though it's a stout engine it shouldn't be a match for something like that until parastic losses took over. It also depends on if it's an auto versus manual and how hard the driver is willing to lean on it especially if it's a manual, and if he has sticky tires but that would be "not stock" In my opinion. Naturally, I'd want to see the video win or lose :>

I haven't posted in here yet nor have I voted because I don't care about street racing. Now if you are doing it at the drag strip...that's a different story.

I will say the vette will probably win. The reason I say this is the van is so aerodynamically inefficient that as you increase speed, the wind resistance goes up double. Remember Peter ran ZZ at the strip and just broke into the 12's. He has 572 ft# of torque and 500+ hp...what is your 383 going to produce? 600 hp is NOT going to get a 4000# van moving at the track where 600 ft# of torque will.

Here is how I see it play out...light goes green and tran leaves hard and then POW there goes the rear end or the tranny! :yawinkle:
