Intermittent wiper switch, 02 chevy 2500HD

Post by GnarliSafari »

well as the topic states the intermittent switch for the wipers in my 02 2500HD 'rolet isnt working properly. none of the settings work except for the fastest one, even if i use the washers they spray but the wipers do not move unless i have them on full throttle. does anyone know if its the entire assembly that is shot or possibly a bad connection? is it all right in the lever or is the actual switch elsewhere? my safari doesnt give me nearly as many problems as this sob does....and i am not farmiliar with how it works. thanks in advance.
99 SLT Safari AWD, G80/GT4 rear, Burgundy, 196,000 and counting (strictly AMSOIL) flowmaster 40series muffler no more cat, K&N Kone Filter, roll pan, 255/60/15 rubbers mounted to 15x8.5 inch American Racing Tailgunner wheels, billet grille, CB Radio, Alpine Deck, Shag carpet, the list goes on....
03 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, LB7 Duramax Diesel, 5 speed Allison Tranny, Crew Cab Long Bed, no muffler or cat, 4 inch turbo back and side piped. not too many other mods yet, also addicted to AMSOIL.

I've got the same thing happening in my wife's '98. It's crazy, sometimes it works great and other times it just grinds to a stop in mid swipe. No noise when it happens, it just stops... Any help would be great :>)

FYI, as an interim fix and for added safety during a rainstorm malfunction I have applied Rain-X and it works great.

jim (dawgs)

some model years had a recall for the windshield wiper pulse board (my in-laws' 95 astro was on it)

can you pm me the last 8 digits of your vin? i can check to see if your van is in the recall.

if your van is in the recall, you can get it repaired for free at the chevy dealer.

You need to re-solder the wiper board terminals. They crack over time and create cold solder joints. Did this to my 98 Astro as well. Check this thread out.

As for the issue with the 2500HD...not sure.

jim, i checked your van's VIN, and it is not eligible for that recall. i just checked, and it runs from 1995 to 1997 models only.

i just got in from a short weekend vacation, much needed. :)

i'd try that fix dean posted.

Ok, thanks for looking Robert. I'll be checking into the circuit board. We're getting into monsoon season down here after a long drought...
