Bummer

My youngest brother just informed me that Dear Ol' Mom has lung cancer. She's been feeling poorly these past months and has lost about 37 lbs. Dad finally convinced her to go in to find out what's wrong. The docs performed a bronchoscopy (sp?) and found a 3 cm polyp after draining off some fluid in her lungs. She goes in to the oncologist on Monday.
We all figured that Dad would be the first one to go and that Mom would be dancing on all of our graves before she went, but that's uncertain right now.
Will keep you informed. Keep the good thoughts going.

I'm sorry to hear that Mike.
They can do some pretty amazing things with cancer if caught early.
I wish your mother the best.

That plain old sucks! They do have some good medicines so hopefully she'll be dancing on your graves in many years. Your family is in our thoughts.

UPDATE
Just got back from the parent's home. Mom was in Dad's chair (!), hooked up to an Ox concentrator/generator, breathing very shallow and covered by an afghan that she made a long time ago. I also found out that the cancer is also in her liver. Results from the oncologist are due tomorrow, but it doesn't look good. All three of us boys are in complete agreement that there will be NO arguments over the bones. We figure that our sister will be there with bells on and her hand out.
While we're prepared to let her go, we don't want to see her go at all. But when she does go, we want her to go with grace and dignity and her head held high.

Mike, My heart goes out to you and your family. I hope it's quick. I watched my youngest brother suffer for months. It was a terrible time. We were so relieved when he finally passed. [-o< [-o<

FURTHER UPDATE
Just got the diagnosis in. It's Adenocarcinoma, (
http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Adenocarcinoma) a relatively slow moving, and treatable, form of cancer. Mom starts chemo tomorrow. The problem of the lungs filling with fluid will be dealt with in due time.
Chemo takes a lot out of a healthy person as well, so, naturally, we're worried about Dad. We're going to put our collective feet down and tell Dad that we're available to help, regardless of what he has to say.
On a fun(?) note, Sis will be taking a month off and coming up here to "help" Mom & Dad. Brothers say that they will strap her down and demand to know why she is treating me like dirt.
We'll see.
