service # 16263494 best option ?
we have a 5.7 vortec from a 97 gmc truck into a 2005 awd astro ,viewtopic.php?f=48&t=5754. I was thinking of using a service #1626494 from a 2000 4wd s10 to run things,I talked to techs at GM they say that they use vin number to program computer. I do have access to a computer ,bcm, etc from a 98 awd Safari ,I have no information on that one, Would the computer, service # 12589462 from the 2005 astro work with 97 vortec .The truck had a service # 16229684 computer . Is there better options,or am I headed in the right direction ? GM says that the computer has to be installed to program it,are there places that I can send it to be flashed?

Best option would be to swap to a 0411 PCM, you need to repin your harness to the new connectors. Have your PCM programmed for a 2002 Express. And you'll be find. Changing the connectors takes a few hours, moving one pin at a time. Just releasing clip in the connector.
www.blackbearperformance.com can set you up, I think its sstill $200 for a tune, plus $100 core for a PCM. You can get a PCM from a junkyard probably with connectors (that you will need) for less then that. He ships to Canada too.

I was talking to Justin at Black Bear Performance ,he does not know if the gauges will work with the 411 programed for a 2002 Express,I think on the astro the gauges use serial data link, looking on the wire diagrams for the 2002 express ,the fuel sensor, pnp switch ,temp sensor wire to the pcm and to the instrument cluster. My question is,does the data required to run the Astro instrument cluster still comes from pcm and the stuff has to be direct wired because of the deficiency of the express instrument cluster. To make a long question short ,will it work .

No guarantees but I would hedge my bets on "yes" because the original unit is a 0411 ECU as well. If you can find a VIN you may be able to get a dealership to flash a V8 Express bin for you as well.
