This is where my future will be
I am talking about living fulltime in my RV working my business selling snack foods out of one set-up and selling salvage foods out of the other. That is if I ever get done with my projects. The article is in chief about how that works with a RV:

Re: This is where my future will be
Good read, Gary. I've talked to several couples who have raised their family and no longer want the expense of keeping a home. They have joined an ever increasing number of folks who have sold the house, bought a motorhome and spend their days traveling. Not one of them have any complaints. Cherie and I have talked about doing this. It sounds like a very viable lifestyle. Good luck.

Re: This is where my future will be
I like the idea of motorhome travel, but I have to have a home base. I don't see myself ever wanting to get rid of my 'stuff'. My toy car collection alone is something i can't ever imagine doing away with. And then there are tools, spare parts, etc., etc. Now if I had my 40x60 shop... with exceptional security... I could maybe see hitting the road for many months of the year!

Ummm Ummm Ummm! Where do I get me some salvage foods? Sounds absolutely yummy!
Couldn't I save some change and get some out of the dumpster myself? Or is this pre-sorted dumpster divin's? Damn! I always wondered who took all the good garbage before I got there.

There are chain stores down south that sell dented or slightly over date foods. It is a established industry for yrs.But certainly not dumpster diving.Perfectly safe and many well know brand names serving people needing to save money during hard economic times.97CargoCrawler wrote:Ummm Ummm Ummm! Re: This is where my future will be
I thought you had meant to say salvage "goods." I have never seen anyone selling canned food and whatnot out of a vehicle......and I work in Hollywood! You can get highly discounted electronics and jewelry....but never seen any food. The 10 million bums who live there can verify that. Good luck to you!
Re: This is where my future will be
I shut down this business yrs ago to build-up easier set-ups and the equipment I didn't have. The foods are bought from wholesalers in pallet loads or truck loads.Really the Ole Yellar 383 has always been about that from the beginning.

Re: This is where my future will be
Hopefully you can make that work! It sounds like it's a pretty good idea. It's certainly a great way to get out of the "keeping up with the Joneses" ideology that we all seem to suffer from. Good luck!
I'd like to live in my van when I turn 18. It's amazing how much money people waste on housing, and I don't like waste.

Re: This is where my future will be
I have a van dweller temporarily stationed in my driveway. He's on his second Astro. First was a 2003 AWD that was lost to a drunk driver while parked on the streeet when he was visiting his sister in San Diego. He bought a 94 Tiger GT in Florida last Thurs and drove it to my place for general maintenance/upgrades.
Unfortunately he rear ended someone with it on Tuesday, body shop says $4250 for their normal premium work, adjuster from his ins will be out today or tomorrow. Fairly sure it will be totaled, but we are investigating a plan for buy back and repair.
Up side is that he had Full Time RV Ins, so they are putting him up in a hotel and would get him back to California if the Tiger won't be repaired.
So if you go full time, make sure you have Full Time RV Ins.
Jake, if you try van dwelling, find out what is your state's and insurance's requirements to have your van classified as an RV.

Yepper.AAA is apart of that mix.Got a race buddy that broke down in Ohio while he lives in Buffalo,NY.He was forced to pay for a tow back to Buffalo and no AAA.For the RV and enclosed trailer it was acouple of grand.I am going to have full boat insurance on both RV and trailer and AAA premium coverage. To tow anything like that towed off a interstate is expensive.

Re: This is where my future will be
If you're traveling, you have to declare a state and county somewhere to be your official residence. Where you choose to locate your domicile makes a difference in your annual expenses. State income tax, state sales tax, state vehicle registration fees and smog inspection requirements, and health insurance rates all relate to your domicile.
Other factors to consider when choosing a domicile: Jury duty requirements, vehicle inspection, driver license renewal. And don't overlook inheritance taxes.
The states most often recommended as a domicile for folks who live in RVs and travel are Texas, Florida and South Dakota. All three have no state income tax, and they are friendly to the idea of full time RV travelers having a domicile in the state.
Several companies offer services to help you set up a domicile if you're a full time traveler. The Good Sam RV club in Florida, and the Escapees RV Club in Texas are two examples.
