best Y pipe for the 4.3?
I read somewhere that some years of these vans had a bigger Y pipe then other years? Anyone have input?
Recently bought a 1989 Astro RS from Florida. Replaced stock engine witha 1997 5.7 vortec with TBI and replaced transmission with rebuilt 700R4 with mild shift kit.

I do.
And it isnt just the Y-pipe, but the exhaust manifolds as well.
I've had a few Gen 1 vans from 1987 and 1990.
All of those vans had the same size/shape of manifold and Y-Pipe.
Once upon a time I ripped the whole subframe/engine/trans assembly out from under a 1995 AWD VIN-W Van (to build my 87 4wd).
I noticed that the exhaust manifolds were different that the 87s, and the Y-Pipe was also larger diameter than the 87.
I left those manifolds and Y-pipe in place when I installed that Vin-W engine/subframe/assy into a 1987 van.
I believe that the Y-Pipe differs in shape between 2wd and AWD (and maybe the manifolds too, I'm not positive).
Just FYI, I have never looked at the pipes/manifolds from a newer than 95, so they might be different too.
More input anyone?

Re: best Y pipe for the 4.3?
Well I am buying a 95 vin w 4.3 with 80,000 miles for 300 bucks to go into my 89 Astro RS. but I don't have the Y pipe so I figured if I am going to buy one I would like to have the most free flowing one. The 95 engine is complete except for the starter.

Probly cheaper to go to an exhaust shop that will bend you up a new one, than to find one from GM.
Or grab a 2wd y-pipe from a 95 at the P&P. My 95 had the CAT welded right to it from stock, and a 3" outlet.
