Chevy & GMC Vans

Hey folks. Some jerk ripped off the Chevrolet symbol from the center of my grill and my daughter stuck on a BMW roundel for a laugh, but I've had enough people ask me if it had an engine swap that I got to wondering if it had ever been done, whether or not it would actually be worthwhile. A straight six would be too long I think but BMW does make V6s. Anybody seen such an animal? Thanks.

I don't know of any. There's a few diesel swaps and a boat load of small block Chevys.

Seems the swap usually goes the other way; Chevy into a Bimmer. BMW motors and parts are a bit spendy.

Your both right, what's the point of putting in a pricey Bimmer engine when a small block will do the job and better in some ways. It was just a thought that it could be done. I remember seeing a Jeep Wagoneer with a Ferrari V12 and gearbox years ago so this has gotten me all curious. Thanks.

I'm a little late to this party, but I'll chime in anyway. No, BMW does not build a V6. Yes, I agree their straight sixes are probably too long. The V8s are huge, you'd need a body lift to make it fit. V10 and V12, also too long. Their older 4 cylinders may fit easily, but they make less power than the 4.3. They have a new turbo 4cyl that would probably fit and makes decent power with good fuel economy. However, it's only been on the market for about 18 months so you will probably have a hard time finding a used one and they're stupid expensive new.

I think you should swap an LS motor in there and stick a Corvette badge in the grille!

How OLD are you?! I remember an article on this very Jeep... and it originally appeared in a 4x4 mag back in the late 70s or early 80s! (I've got the magazine still.)
