Mirror Upgrade
Stock mirrors on my lifted van give way too big of a blind spot on tHe freeway and too little field of view when reversing on mountain trails. Been bumming me out for years.
Then I noticed 97Cargocrawlers van with dual arm Chevy truck mirrors: Of courrrrrrrrrrse... #-o

Awesome, Tom. Brand name? Part number? I may have to look into those.

Power mirrors? (Compatible with out plugs?)
I'm running a junkyard manual mirror on one side right now after my original just decided to drop the glass portion going down the road. This'd be a good "fix". ;-)

Re: Mirror Upgrade
Herbie, the same thing happened to me with my 92 Safari. I got a replacement glass at Manny, Moe, & Jack's for just $11.00 (of course, that was a century ago). Much cheaper than the stealership's $54 price tag.
But what really helped (and continues to help) is the LaneChanger II mirror for the inside. Sorry, but I can't seem to find a link for it.

Re: Mirror Upgrade
The mirrors are huge. I like them, my buddy thinks they look way to big.
You could go with the largest chevy non dual arm mirror and it may work nicely, too, but I really wanted the two piece glass system. Either way, none of them seem to fit.
Skip, it appears none of the chevy dual arm truck mirrors fit, so I found the best deal I could on ebay and went for it. Made them fit.
Mike, the side to side glass adjustment power is easy enough to wire up. The heat, I didn't bother with, but may end up wiring to my defroster.
I did the reindexed torsion keys and ball joint relocation too. After 6 years, it feels like a new van again. (My hands aren't working very well any more-I can hardly drink a cup of coffee- so my awesome brother in law did the vast majority of the work.)
Leaving for Owyhee again tomorrow, pics to follow.

Re: Mirror Upgrade
Awesome!
I don't think you can have 'too big' of a mirror. After buying my F-250 Super Duty, which at the time was the first pickup to offer REAL mirrors, I fell in love with them. It takes a little time to get used to the dual glass, but once you do, it inspires confidence because there is no place for anyone to hide.

Nice work T.Low, great for towing duty too. Good idea about wiring heater to defrost as well.

Re: Mirror Upgrade
Hi Everyone,
The electric remote mirrors for 98 to 2005 Astro are now available from the TYC brand that also makes composite headlamp module replacements.
Just put a new passenger side mirror on my 2003 AWD. The complete unit with glass and motors and gasket and nuts was $45. I used to get mirrors at Pic your part but wow the entire thing for $45.
The Astro mirrors are great since then do fold in for tight clearance situations.
