Re: Please Verify that Soft 8 Style Steel Wheels Fit On An '

I have Cragar Soft eights on my 96 Safari. 15-8. I think they have 4" offset. No problem with front brake calipers.

Re: R.I.P. T.Low you will be missed

When I was in Washington visiting friends Tom invited me to come spend some time with him. It was a great visit. Jen was pregnant with Olivia. Tom had just been diagnosed with ALS. What a great memory. So sad to hear of his passing.

Re: Embarking on an excellent journey with my SLX

Don't see a lot of the SLX models. I've had mine for 14 years. After 283+ thousand miles it's currently in my shop waiting on a transmission rebuild.

Re: Oil pan drop for Timing cover?

I've never done a timing chain cover without dropping the pan. I don't trust that the seals will line up perfectly. As for the balancer I put a piece of 2x4 against it and gently hammer it in place. Always worked for me.

Try moving it with a large pry bar on the starter ring gear.

Re: Rear ride height etc

Good questions, Rod. I have a factory service manual and have not seen the measurement you need. You might look at other Chevy trucks to see if their bump stops would work.

Re: Cat install

Are you going to use the original cat back exhaust? Everything from the cat to the rear end.

Welcome.....I've been here for a very long time. As stated before we probably didn't have an answer. This is pretty much a no nonsense group. There's a ton of info here. Be patient.

Re: General Tune Up?

I too have been a mechanic for 50 years. These new computer operated vehicles have been a challenge. I would suggest you index the distributor housing to the manifold and the rotor to the housing. The reason being you should pull the distributor to check the wear on the gear. Premature wear of these...

Long time member of this site. I met Gary at a balloon event I attend in Letchworth State Park, Portageville, NY. We had a nice visit. His health was not that good. I'm sorry to hear he's gone. Rest in peace old friend.

Re: Driver and passenger windows go up very slowly, if at al

I'm guessing that nothing on the regulator has been lubed since the van left the factory. The factory lube gets hard after all these years. A good cleaning and fresh lube would do miracles for the operation of the windows.
