Re: 95' Safari 4.3 to 5.7 vortec questions

You have choices, just none are real easy. Or Cheap... Carbed 350 hopped up with a 700r4 is starting to sound really good... this FI crap confuses me to no end.. #-o I also have access to a 67 camaro thats wrecked but has a built 350 in it. 700r4 i have in the garage waiting for a home some day..lol

Extra injectors?

Vortec's only have 1 injector and 6-8 poppet valves... right?

Re: 95' Safari 4.3 to 5.7 vortec questions

Aren't the wiring harnesses identical?

I can get parts from the truck but not the whole thing... less parts = less $$$ out of pocket.

Cherry Picker I have, just don't feel like seperating the body from front end...lol

Re: 95' Safari 4.3 to 5.7 vortec questions

Sweet thanks... i kind of figured as much being as they are both CPI.

Now i just have to get the truck and rip out the motor and ECU... oh and cut the front end off the van to get the motor out (i don't have a hoist to lift the body off).

95' Safari 4.3 to 5.7 vortec questions

I'm assuming that my 95 safari is a 4.3L vortec engine as it's CPI. That said I have access to a 97' Z71 with a vortec 5.7L.

Just checking but i'm pretty sure this is a direct swap like a tbi to tbi is.

Obviosly have to change the ECU but how about the fuel pump?

Thanks guys,
Gordon :canuk:

Re: 98 injection on 95 block???

Learned something today... in the V6's anyway... there is 2 generations of the "vortec" line. They seem to classify the 87-94 as gen 1 and 95-05? (whenever they quit making them) as gen 2. Worst case scenario i have to swap over the heads anyhow... which is ok because it's likely a good id...

Re: 98 injection on 95 block???

See i was pretty sure of that same thing... can't remember but i think the pre-vortecs are 23° and the vortecs are 19° or 21°.

I'm still researching this as the 95' was/is an odd ball year in these vans.

98 injection on 95 block???

I have a 95 safari that has cpi injection on it and a 98 astro that has mpi injection.... the 98's engine is toast but the injection system is good.... can i slap the 95's block and heads into the 98's body and bolt up the mpi injection setup rather then the shitty cpi??

Thanks

How do you check the coil for output though?

Re: Hard starting problem -- any ideas?

You can run this van for hours then shut it off for 30 seconds and it's still hard to restart.

The odd part is once it's running it idles perfectly and still spanks 5.0 mustangs with ease.

Someone suggested to me the coolant temp sensor possibly???

Wouldn't poor spark make for crappy acceleration though?

Re: Hard starting problem -- any ideas?

Just replaced that last month with an AC delco OEM replacement (i work at a dealership so i get them cheap).

I took it to work today and had them test the fuel pressure... its right where it should be for CPI.

Hard starting problem -- any ideas?

Hey guys, my 95 Safari has just recently decided to be a pain in the butt to start. It is hard to start either warm or cold... doesn't seem to matter. The odd part is that once it's running it idles perfectly and accelerates perfectly. My first thought was fuel filter but that should hinder performa...

Re: Question for you AWD pro's

On the RWD vans you can swap the frame side engine mounts from side to side instead of buying mounts.... not sure if you can do the same on the AWD ones though.
