Re: what's it worth?

I would not consider that high mileage, that is only 27K /year... I still think it is a little high with the soft market... maybe $2500... there will always be others

Re: Rust problems on Toyotas...

this was part of the frame rot recall. toyota was cutting checks of the 'value when new' to the current owner if it was one of the rotted frame trucks. they all went from the dealers, or toyota canada, sold to the wreckers to be parted out for a whopping $200 each. they are not to be repaired or re...

Re: Why does the sprinter get better mpg?

Finally got the sprinter motor back from the engine shop... It measures roughly 30" fan to bellhousing, 28"wide and 30" tall... almost identical dimensions to the 300D motor I used in my toyota. with the trans add another 25" off the back. I have not really measured under the hoo...

Re: Ok i'm on crack....

The problem is that no body is buying anything right now... I know of five or 6 companys that have fleets of 30+ vans and are only using half of them, but can not get rid of the extras..

Re: Gear prices

I think the 4.10s might be overkill if you are doing most of your driving without a trailer... I have 3.73's in my van and they have plenty of power, really you could propably leave it the way it is and not notice that much of a difference, I think the noticable difference would be in suspension upg...

Re: Why does the sprinter get better mpg?

I still mantain that for bang for your buck you can not beat a 3.0L mercedes 5cyl from an older 300d for the money.... if you search you can pick up a good runner for cheap and they are super reliable... the 20 year old motor has no problem turning the 38" swampers on my toyota and still averag...

Re: Why does the sprinter get better mpg?

The 2.7 looks like it would fit in an astro with no problems. The engine went out to get the bottom end redone yesterday, but I will get some dimensions when it comes back... as cool as an astro with a sprinter motor would be, why not just buy a sprinter? they are designed to be very easy to work on...

Re: Why does the sprinter get better mpg?

Has anyone put a 5 cylinder 2.7l diesel in a stro? I have one hanging on an engine hoist right next to my astro... does that count? It would be a great motor for a swap, the sprinter is made to be serviceable so everything would be easy to pull out to install in the astro... less than 10 bolts, a c...

Re: Turbo Diesel 4Runner

In my searches I found one guy who attempted the swap but never finished... my gasser died, and the 300d was only 300 bucks... offroading season was a couple weeks away so I made it work.. 4runners are overpriced, that is for sure, but mine is as rust free as it gets for a canadian truck, it still h...

Re: Turbo Diesel 4Runner

the motor is a 3L inline 5 cyl turbo and is rated at 125bhp and 170ftlbs... not a ton but more than the 4cyl gasser I pulled out.

to be honest for the price and availability of these old 300d benz's they would propably be a nice swap for the astro :poke:

Re: Turbo Diesel 4Runner

I made an adapter plate from some steel plate, and had an aluminum bushing machined to center the flywheel and hold the pilot bearing... the astro would not start yesterday, If I had another spare diesel I would start tomorrow...in fact, I do have a 12KV 4 cyl diesel generator, about 45hp... I could...
