Re: 2000 Safari has a bad miss...
That was one tricky miss to sort out! Despite all my replacements the miss just kept coming back so finally I gave up and brought it to a shop. Guess what? Even though it has only 250K the timing is worn enough that the computer can't compensate so we oblonged the distributor hold-down bolt hole eno...

Fixed the miss!
Hi everyone, Thanks for your suggestions, as it turns out, the injection unit I installed was faulty and replacement made the codes go away and it ran the same as before, with a noticeable miss. I misted the coil to no avail and then replaced the plastic protectors on the plug leads for the left ban...

2000 Safari has a bad miss...
Boy am I stumped! Here is a list of the things I have replaced on my AWD 2000 Safari 4.3 with 234Km while trying to get rid of a low speed hesitation which turned into a miss: fuel filter air cleaner spark plugs plug leads coil distributor (new, complete with cap, sensor, rotor) mass airflow meter f...

My 2000 safari runs like crap when it rains...
My 2000 safari runs like crap when it rains, doesn't matter if it is stored inside or out. Replaced the coil last month in hopes of a cure, ran pretty OK but has recently started the bad weather behavior again. I'm thinking maybe plug wires? I think I've replaced the coil wire already. Also, sometim...

Drivetrain binding in tight turns
Had a problem with the drive train on my 2000 Safari binding in tight turns. Went on-line and most common diagnosis was break-down of transfer case fluid which was causing drag within transfer case. Replaced with Trac 2 fluid and it improved but only for awhile. Wasn't until winter when the AWD ligh...

Re: 2000 Safari won't shift gears
I made sure all the valve body bolts went back into the original holes. Test drove again today, it jumped into a higher gear and stayed there. I also noticed that the speedo is not reading at all and the torque converter clutch was not engaging, or at least it felt that way because there was no comp...

Re: 2000 Safari won't shift gears
When I swapped the valve bodies the tranny's were mounted on engine stands and rotated upside down so I was looking straight down at the valve bodies side by side. I checked that the ball bearings were in the same places and counted them to be sure then put the valve body that was originally in the ...

2000 Safari won't shift gears
Wondering if anyone out there has had the problem of their transmission not shifting out of 1st gear? The trans seems to work normally but won't shift into second. Just replaced the trans in my 2000 Safari AWD with one from Pick-n-Pull. Whoever spiked the tranny pan also damaged the valve body so I ...

Re: How do I replace 2000 Safari front diff axle bearings?
Sure appreciate the info and advice you guys. I decided to backtrack my diagnosis based on photo_van's wondering if I was sure about the diff bearings so I removed the wheel bearings and discovered the passenger side is grindy, going to replace it and see if that is whats going on. Once again, Thank...

Re: How do I replace 2000 Safari front diff axle bearings?
Thanks a million for your response, this is my first time posting. I'm pretty sure it's bad because there is a lot of noise coming from underneath and when I grab the diff side of the inner CV and jiggle it is quite loose. My concern is that the ring gear may be damaged due to misalignment with the ...

How do I replace 2000 Safari front diff axle bearings?
The transfer case had the clutch problem (oil deteriorated and started locking up) and it took out the bearings in the front diff, how do you replace the bearings on the drivers side?
