Re: MAF p0102 code
30 Ohms? To check a mass sensor you need a Lab Scope. I hope your not checking voltage and resistance readings with an Analog meter, you need a digital so you dont let the magic smoke out the mystery box..

Re: '86 5 speed How Rare?
I had an 85 with a 4 cylinder and 4 speed. POS, found an 89 with a 4.3 and 5 speed, swapped engine, tranny and dash and had a van that would go sideways from a stop smoke second and third gear and chirp fourth. then I swapped the rear end to the V-6 one and got 20 MPH. It still burned first gear and...

Re: Bad Cat!
Some converters have pellets coated with Platinum, palladium and rhodium. So pounding on one of these will rattle anyway.

I didn't mean kick it but nudge it with my knee and stop tightening it when no noticeable play is felt.

Apply, hold, release, apply 50 times a second, not so complex.

Re: Spindle Nut Torque?
The Manual says 12 ft lbs to seat, back off and hand tight then back off 1/4 to 1/2 turn to install cotter pin. I install the tire tight with cap off, kick the top or bottom of tire with my knee and tighten until I can't feel play then install pin.

That's not a spacer, that's the seal. Get 2, one for the other side, replace the races too.

Re: Spongy breaks
I didn't see what year your van is and there is a difference. Air won't compress thus the spongy peddle. Try starting the engine every bleed, that cycles the ABS pump. Then again an 85 won't have ABS so my reply would be to start at the Master and open every fitting and bleed like normal. Some times...

Re: how difficult to change distributor?
Sorry about my cyphering skills, that's what I meant to say. I just want to mention that the motors with have no adjustment have a driveability problem sometimes, the only way to check is with a bidirectional scan tool. If the timing isn't on 0 with the scan tool hooked up you can file away at the h...
Re: tires
If you use tires of different height the ABS light will flash.

Re: how difficult to change distributor?
I've done a couple of them. The one caution I have for you is that as you remove the distributor, the shaft will rotate as the worm gear disengages. This also rotates the oil pump tang that fits into the bottom of the distributor shaft. To install the new dist., the oil pump shaft has to be rotated...

Re: how difficult to change distributor?
I like to ref number one cylinder @ tdc with the rotor on number one cylinder on the dist and the timing mark on the harm balancer @ 0 on the timing mark.Bump the engine over with that plug out and putting your finger over that number one plug hole.Ck the dist to see it is on number one and pressur...

Re: Anyone have blue smoke upon first startup?
As hard as it is the Dealer will cost 1500.00 to 2000.00. Jim in Indy's got it right but I might add, Doesn't matter where the cam is your removing the rocker arm. One of the best ways I've done is shove a 3/8 or 1/4 inch rope into the spark plug hole, run the piston up till the rope is pushing agai...
