V6 to V8 swap water pump

This might be a silly question, but i will soon work on my new motor and on this process, i will be putting back my accessory bracket from my v6 to my V8 and i just found out that the water pump that i bought for the V8 rotates counter clock wise while my v6 is clockwise.

the big question is, can i use a water pump off a v6 onto a v8 350?

Thanks

Why don't you just return the wrong pump for the right one??.

A v6 pump will fit

If the engine you have requires a reverse rotation W/P,you can't run a normal rotation W/P on it.

Mix review, so if it is reversed, can i fool around with the belt to make it work in reverse?

I wouldn't risk it. Water pumps are so cheap new, why mess with what works?

A 4.3 v6 is the same engine as a 350v8 just with 2 cylinders cut off. So the direction of water would make no difference would it? If you use the v6 accesories and brackets then use the v6 pump they should pump the same amount of water. The big thing to watch is that you use the right fan for the direction of rotation. We accidently put a v8 fan on v6 pulleys and it blew air out the front of rad. The van was fine on the highway and stop and go traffic but at city speeds the van would over heat. Once the fan was put back every thing was fine and that truck had a v6 pump on a v8.

KH-the water jackets are configured different on reverse rotation engines.

It's a centrifugal pump it sucks from one side and blows out the other it shouldn't matter which way the pump spins I have put a v6 pump on a v8 that origionaly spun the other way and that engine still runs fine today and that had to be 5 years ago.

The valve seat cooling is where the difference is.

To be more exact, the coolant passages design and direction effects the cooling of the exhaust valve seats.GM did this as a upgrade.

Thanks for replies

yes i will be using the acc bracket off my v6 to put on the V8.
As for the cooling Fan? i will be using an Electric Fan as i will need more room to work on the rad or water pump if it ever fails. so the Clutch fan and all will be gone and will put an Electric one in it.

Plus i will be lifting the body for another 2 inches, so the Fan Shroud will have to be cut. So i am not worried about putting the Cooling fan back in it.

I can do that, i just want to make sure that the W/P deliver the pressure that the motor need for cooling as i can read a lot of comment here about it, but i will definitely try the V8 W/p going Clockwise

The electric fan is also good for a gain of aprox 15-20 hp depending on the number of fan blades.

Just got the fan this week end and it is a 10 Blade, 16" electric fan, the van will soon be of the road as the motor is almost ready.
