Hi everyone.
New guy here, have a 90 G20 Beauville. The hood release cable has broken and I need to get under the hood. Doesn't seem like there is any access from the outside to coax it open.
Also, I have an 84 parts van. Would the cable in it fit the 90? Are new cables available?
Thanks everyone.

Re: Broken Hood Cable
Welcome to the site,
I just had the same problem on a '93 astro. I unbolted the hood hinges, then I was able to hold the back up w/ a couple blocks of 2x4. I was able to move the latch with a long rod that I welded a nail on the end to make a hook. It was a 3' long 1/2' x 1/8' .
If you look at the parts van latch you can determine what action you will need to perform or lever to push or pull to open it easiest. Keep in mind the hood needs a good spring to "pop" so it may take a second set of hands to lift while your playing with long sticks!
I can't say for sure if the '84 cable would fit but I looked at rock auto and did not see them for your van but found this- https://www.rockauto.com/en/tools/inter ... cable,1360
Good luck!

Re: Broken Hood Cable
Thanks Wood. I don't have access to the hinges with the hood closed, but your 3' long rod gives me an idea. Perhaps I can take the doghouses off and reach the latch from behind. I'll give it a look.

Re: Broken Hood Cable
Good morning everyone.
Yes it's been awhile since I posed this question. Yesterday was the first chance I had to get back to it. I'm happy to report I successfully got the hood open.
I took the doghouse off and could see the back of the latch. I reached forward with a long screwdriver and tripped the latch, very easy. Hood popped right open. What had happened was the swaged end of the cable popped out of the clip in the latch and pulled tight against the grommet at the end of the sheathing. My plan is to get a new cable assembly and restore the whole thing to proper operation. But for now, I replaced the swaged end into the clip on the latch, and ran the cable to the side and secured it with a piece of tape. Now I just stand in front of the van and pull the cable and the hood opens. I'm not real worried about anyone walking up and getting under the hood.
Not a terrific design if you ask me, but I looked and looked and I couldn't have done it any better. No access from above the grille. No access from below. At least now we know.
Thanks everyone.
