2019 Express 3500 Extended Regear help needed
2019 Express 3500 Extended Regear help needed
I am working to regear my 2019 Express 3500 extended van.
I am at 3.42 now and I need to go to 4.10s.
I am installing a Timberline 4WD kit and Tim recommended 4.10s all around.
I am having trouble sourcing the gears for this setup. Nothing specifically states which gears to get. I would prefer to get AAM gears.
My axle is (I am pretty sure), a 9.5 12 bolt.
Has anyone had any success changing gears on a newer van. Thank you

Regearing is pretty expensive. I would call up your local auto recyclers and see what they have. Look for vans with RPO code for the gear ratio you want and swap the whole axle.
Bear in mind that re-gearing or using non factory size tires will cause incorrect speedometer and odometer readings. It may also affect the operation of your transmission, ABS and Stabilitrak (traction control) systems. To remedy that, you need to have your PCM and EBCM programmed/calibrated.

Thank you for the reply. I will look around and see if I can find a decent 3500 axle with 4:10s.
Regearing is expensive if you are paying for someone to do it. I can do it for $500 and it is not a big deal for me.
I definitely will be getting a HP Tuner and perform the recommended updates to the 6L90e that are recommended to increase the life of the transmission as well as adjusting to support the gearing mods.
I have found that certain Sierra 1500 axles for the 2014-2018 seem to be the same differential (9.5" 12 bolt). Their options for different gears will support my swap as long as the housings are machined the same. I suspect I will be pioneering this one as one person I called stated there is no aftermarket support for the 2019 3500 axle yet.

I find it hard to believe that a 1/2 ton pickup would have the same gears as a 1 ton van.
Re: 2019 Express 3500 Extended Regear help needed
Believe me I am right there with you. However, when I cross reference the OEM gear set I see it is also installed in 1500s which have the 9.5" option.

interesting. maybe the design costs outweighed the part costs.
Re: 2019 Express 3500 Extended Regear help needed
It is a 9.5” 12-bolt. Should have “9.5” cast into the housing, facing up on the passenger side of the pinion.jcieslik wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 11:50 am I am working to regear my 2019 Express 3500 extended van.

You need AAM part #40033637 for 4.10 r&p. Liable to be pretty pricey though. There’s several aftermarket sets available that cost less.
I found it odd that GM uses this rear in 3/4 and 1-ton vans, but only 1/2 ton pickups, but it’s actually rated for the load. Maybe they figure it won’t take as much abuse in a street- only vehicle Maybe the physical size was a consideration, since even the 10.5” 14-bolt is much bigger and heavier.

Sorry, I listed the wrong part number.
It should be #95K2410GEARKIT
This seems like a reasonable price:

Re: 2019 Express 3500 Extended Regear help needed
So I did do this kit: #95K2410GEARKIT. It worked perfectly. I did the full diff rebuild and the axle bearings and seals as well.
I went from 3.42s to 4.10s. I will need to correct the speedo but I plan on getting the HP Tuners for engine and transmission tuning (mostly trans tuning to fix the issues with the torque converters).
My initial impression is that it is not kicking hard like when I went from 3.73s to 4.10s on my 4L60e with a shift kit. I suspect it is due to the 6l90e having more gears and it is a pretty smooth transmission. That being said I have not pulled my trailer in the mountains yet but I expect it to get the job done.
I used Richmond gears in the past and they made noise at 55MPH. Pattern was good and all so I am not sure why. That is why I went with OEM/AAM gears this time and she is nice and quiet.
