Which shock absorbers do you prefer?

Post by peppy »

Im thinking of replacing my shock absorbers on my 1991 Astro AWD. What are your favorite shocks? Which ones do you prefer?

Thanks all!

What do you think about the Rancho RS5147 and RS 5150 shocks?

I have Bilsteins and they are great shocks and they might be the best you can buy... they are just really expensive. I actually have the rear pair for sale right now since I swapped to Belltech drop shocks since I lowered it. Let me know if your interested. :poke:

How much do you sell them for? Why do you think they are the best?

Thanks

I could of sworn there was a thread about shocks earlier this year before I bought them. I read all the reviews and people swore by Bilsteins (Not a single complaint). So I bought them and they were a lot better than stock of course. I have run Bilsteins on other cars as well. Compared to other brands I have ran they are not as stiff and harsh, provide a better ride than stock, handle better... anyway I am selling the rear pair for $80 plus shipping. I bought them new for $150, and they were only on for a few months. PM me if interested.

Bilsteins are definitely the most expensive shock I've ever bought, but you get what you pay for. IMHO they are worth the $$$$. I like the KYB monomax shocks also. Got those on one of the jeeps.
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

Peppy,do a search in the archives about shocks because there is tons of info. I recommend KYB gas adjusts the white ones for a comfortable but firm ride, I run these on the front of my lowered Astro, with adjustable airshocks on the rear because I tow and they help me with my sagging butt!

Bilsteins are the best quality and give a firm ride, but they are more expensive, I fit these to SUV`s at my work all the time.

I put 4 Bilsteins on mine, man those are great. You can't get any better unless you go for koni (might be around 1K per set), bu Blisteins are well worth it. Very smooth and I did pack some weight on them one time, they hold up pretty good.

I believe Darren is running Gabriel Hijackers on the rear. Think that's correct.
