Instrument cluster...

Post by Cobra »

so after work today my instrument cluster stated acting strange first i was sitting in park waiting for my family and the red light to indicate what gear your in flickered and went out... so i cursed out loud wasn't much of a deal, figured i should post about it. on the way to the grocery store i noticed my voltage drop when stopped at a light and headlights dim generally a bad sign but my gear inticator was back on.... revved it up and voltage came back up kept driving voltage stayed up got to store and parked. done shoppin' loaded up started it up seemed to have some trouble starting chugged a little then idled fine voltage indicator was at 14 and not moving decided to check my head unit since it says voltage said it was at 13.something ok... starting driving home voltage would go from 12.2 stopped at a light to 14.6 but the gauge on my instrument cluster wouldn't move

hmmm that got long main point is my instument cluster seems to be acting strange and have no idea why.....

Clean up your battery cables at both ends and check them for corrosion, see if that helps. Could be a poor battery too. I would check these things first before you tare your dash apart.

I remember that youir alternator died at the last NECO. Maybe again? My dash goes haywire when the battery voltage drops with a bad alt. Try cleaning up the cables like Kabey suggested and go from there. You remember how we checked to see if it was charging last time? lol

Good luck!

Religiously check your grounds for proper conductivity and connection. You have NO idea how many problems are caused by poor grounds #-o

i actually cleaned my grounds up when the i installed at neco died and the rebuilt i bought after that was defective finally got a new one working.... if this ones going i'm going to go crazy. the battery is pretty old and doesn't look to good i have a spare i think i might through in the optima redtop i used at neco to power my tent lights (good and stong and fully charged)
I wanna do the big3 upgrade but sortta intended to move the battery first doesn't make sense to do the work twice
