towing van

if I install the nc233 transfercase, am I correct in thinking I can flat tow the van with the new case in neutral? any advice appreciated.

I am not the expert on this but I think you are thinking through that correctly. You will still be running the axles, front and rear diff and drive lines but that would be it.

NP233 case doesn't have a neutral position.

(This caught me out too, when I first installed mine.)

You can see this thread where Dean (LiftedAWDAstro) did the initial conversion from Electronic-shift to Cable-shift. That T/C and shifter is now in my van. There's no Neutral, just 2Hi, 4Hi, 4Low.

If flat towing in neutral is important to you, look at the NP231 or other variants.

There are caveats to flat-towing with the NP231 also, but they're manageable:
