I have been all over while in the Army but I hate cities. I would much rather live off the beaten path so to speak. Life is full of change so I look at the alternatives. As for my van I have way to much time and money into this project to abandon it for a rust free van to start all over again. But thats just me. Thank you all for the reply's. If I do ever move there I will probably find an old Chevelle or something to build.

I thought Crescent City was a cool suprise. All we really did was paddle the waterfront and eat at a fish and chips place on the ater with unbelievably cute waitresses.

Real cool little shoreline. Unique. Probably too small of a town to find good work though.

Also GREAT redwoods in that area (Jed Smith to the north and Prarie Creek to the south).

if the 4bbl manifold actually has a place for the EGR to reinstall, just do that for the inspection.
I'm not sure just how close they look, but, If the engine inst too clean they might not even notice that its not the same in manifold.
If you use an Edelbrock or whatever without an EGR hole, maybe you could use a stocker to pass the test...
Just my thoughts, I'm not from Cali, so Im not sure how close they inspect though.
Let us know how it shakes out....

The hardest part of making it legal for me would be to pay over a hundred bucks for the egr set up because I have 97 vortec heads on it. I have never been keen on the idea of spending money for non performance parts lol

Sounds like you should move somewhere else, without emissions testing.

Got ya! If the TBI was stock to the 350, then the only issue is the intake and adaptor for the Carb exemption. If it's grungy and stock looking, it may not be a factor. Worst case, swap these parts back to stock or exempt parts.

Yeah, I hate crowded areas too. I don't mind going to these places occassionally, but in the end, I like my three acres outside of a small town!

why not just use a friend's address in your current state to register it?

He better hope his neighbors aren't the busy-body type. CA DMV has a portal setup specifically for people to report people residing in-state but using out-of-state registration:
http://www.chp.ca.gov/prog/cheaters.cgi

Unless you're military, you get 20 days to re-register...

There are many counties up north that do not require smog certification. But they are the remote ones out in the sticks. Everything is insane here: taxes, prices, laws, women, smog rules and women..... Oh I said that already.

I think I would start a new project, especially if you have a garage. There are millions of rust free vans to be had here...but they don't sell very cheap. It would seem that cars in CA are all clad in gold. And the registration fees will shock you.

It's expensive to live here but definitely worth it.

Yeah, that's what it comes down to. Everytime I get fed up with taxes, cost of living, or local politics and start thinking about moving to another state, the list of places I'd be willing to move to is pretty damn short.

Once you've gotten used to all the things CA does really well, it's hard to imagine living anywhere else.
