bumper skirt

Post by coolen »

hey everyone!

how difficult is it to remove the front bumper skirt on these vans? Just a few bolts? I've got some welding to do behind there, and I haven't had one of these front ends apart yet.

Thanks

It's called a FRONT AIR DAM, not a skirt, and yes, it's held on by a few screws.

I assume you are talking the 95...

You need to remove the 3 or 4 push pins under the cover as well as the 2 bolts at the lower front corner support braces. You the remove the 2 bolts that joint the cover to the front fenders. It should then fall right off.

well i took the bumper COVER :muhaha: off yesterday, and to my amazment there was hardly a bumper left behind there. i've got a safety check coming up, so my question is, would the older style bumpers fit on the newer style vans without the cover over it? if it did i think it would look kinda neat. plus it would save me some cash. i'd just swap bumpers for the inspection. i don't even know if that will affect my inspection. i doctored it up quite a bit, but it's the supports that are in behind it that are kinda buggered.

thanks

I would think that all the bumpers should be exchangeable. I take it that you have a bad cae of sodium chloride cancer of the bumper.

definitly got a bad case of somethin' under there. it's a shame, a darn shame. :muhaha:

i was thinking that maybe the bumper off the old style vans would fit in behind the newer style vans' bumper cover.

I think suicidedoor86? or someone else said that they cut down the ends of the old bumper and added the holes to attach the new style cover. I would think that the only part that would be different for you would be that the bumper would need to be off of a later first gen van so that the brackets to the frame horn would be the same, iirc the mounts changed somewhere around 90-92.

well, the bumper i may try is off a 94. my safari is 95. worst case senario is i have to drill a couple new bolt holes i guess. i wouldn't even care if the cover went over it if it looked ok. when i do it i'll post some pics.
