4.3 262 and 265 same?

Post by adas »

Aloha, title says it all. I am looking at a 1992 265 4.3 to replace my 1987 (I think) 262 4.3. Are they the same...even computer things? thanks frank

I thought a 265 was a very bad (i.e. no good) made for smog V8 from the early 80's.

Aloha, yes I remember a chevy 265 being a V-8 in the late 50-60's 283 era too. But this is definitely a V-6 and one site Checkers or Auto Zone had listing for 4.3 in 262 and 265 form. The one I want to buy is the 1992 TBI V-6 265 with headers, roller rockers and been rebuilt for $700.00 Frank

Find out if it's a 6 or an 8 first, I'm pretty sure they didn't make 267s that late, and the 265s started production in 94 Caprices as a child of the LT-1. There's also the old school 265s, but that'd be way out of the era you're talking about.

OK let me restate my question:
I am looking at a 1992 265 4.3 to replace my 1987 (I think) 262 4.3. Are they the same...even computer things? thanks frank

There is a listing for V-6 4.3 being 262 and V-6 4.3 being 265. Records show that the Astro has the V-6 4.3 262. I am looking at a V-6 4.3 265 and they look identical on the outside. BOTH have 6 sparkplugs, so I am not confused with a V-8. I would like to know if there are differences between the two V-6 motors.
thank

Could be a 20 over 4.3L, 4.020 bore 3.48 stroke=~264.9 CID so it makes sense. If they look like the same footprint it should be the same engine. The other displacements of 90 degree V6 chevy made were the 200 and 229 V6, no 265. That'd be about the closest I could come for an explanation.
