Self contained jumpstater

When i went over to Advance Auto to get my blower motor I was looking at the portable jump starters since I have been wanting one.

they had this one for $59.99

The manager told me it was going to be on sale next weekend for 20 or 25% off, but said he would give it to me for that price today so I went ahead and got it. Its charging now.

Justice, how do those things work? There must be a battery inside, but it's hard to imagine that there's enuf 'umph' stored inside one so small to start an engine.

Priolly a battery the size of a motorcycle battery. Good enuf for 1, mebbe 2 shots at starting the beast. Definitely better than nuthin' fer sure, 'specially for $60 $\:D/$

i'll find out how much umph this critter puts out tomorrow...i gots a real dead battery to try to jump...lol

I've had one now for about 3yrs, they are great and have saved my bacon and others many times, just remember to keep it charged up properly.

just wondering what the charged standby time is like on these things?

once fully charged, either sitting in a really cold or really hot van... ?

I've thought about buying one also, everything that I own that's rechargeable seems to be dead when i go to use it after fully charged and sitting.. LOL *bad charge karma*

the instructions say to charge it after every use, or every three months if not used.

The trickiest part of using them is trying to find a place to put the charger so that it won't fall over and yank a cable off, when hooking it up I went from the + batt to the grounding stud on the rad support bracket

well, it didn't seem to have th power to start the 93 with the dead dead dead battery, but I may have also had a grouding problem preventing it from working properly.

But this weekend i used it on my motorcycle and it had plenty of power to fire it right up.

I've got one, but a different brand. I tried to use it to start my 93 Astro. Did not work. Called the manufacturer and asked why. It will NOT work on a totally dead battery. There has to be something there for it to "see". The 93 was totally dead. Ended up using my battery charger to give it some charge.

One reason it works with such a small battery is the short cables. No loss of trying to jump off with 24 feet of cable to push thru (12 blk +12 red).

I use it all the time to start my riding mower.

I've once saw a tow/wrecker guy put a battery on the radiator support and pressed the 18" cables (with the cables bare stripped) with his fingers and the "jumped" car started right up.

I just noticed your other "bike" post,glad to see it came in handy, I am a little surprised to see it didn't help fire up the van tho,even with a dead batt it still shoulda had the cahonee's to at least turn er over, after all its relatively new and you were not dealing with freezing temps,I suspect your right about not having a good ground.
