i think thats for the a.b.s brakes

Looks like an earlier year anitlock brake control unit. My 90 nor my 95 have that, my ABS is a box mounted lower on firewall.

Thanks.... And my truck is 1990 GMC Safari cargo... so that's weird.. My mom's 1990 astro doesn't have this... or did her older 1989 astro have it

Is that where it is mounted?

Mine is way down in the belly of the compartment.

Mine quit working 10+ years ago and has been unplugged ever since.
I was told getting my beauty sleep was a waste of time.

1990 Astro (Z motor) mostly original @ 343,584 miles (552,944.8488960001 Canadian) (03/2008). Bad startup puff. Starting to spray for skeeters. Gone 06/07/08.
1993 Astro with a bad W motor. Parked next to a chicken coop in Talking Rock GA
I'm 'tween Canton and Holly Springs (North NorthWest of Atlanta GA)
I haul bottled water everyday- between 500 and 2500 pounds (226.796185 and 1,133.980925 Canadian) INSIDE the van.

That black box is actually the RWAL (rear wheel anti-lock) brake module.

Like James from BC said, it's the rear wheel anti-lock brake module; my '89 has its module located in the same place as does your van. Well, to be honest, it's not there anymore because it didn't work, so I yanked it.

Moog 625 front springs and Energy Suspension poly bushings. Rear OEM sway bar. Edelbrock shocks.
